Ston and the Pelješac Peninsula

Peljesac Peninsula, Croatia

A wonderful day trip from Dubrovnik can take you to Ston and the Pelješac Peninsula, giving you a real taste of Croatian life. Join traditional fishermen, sample fresh seafood, and taste some excellent local wine.

A day trip north along the coast to Ston will allow you to see some of the country’s most mountainous and beautiful scenery, and you’ll experience a gastronomic treat at the same time. The historic town of Ston, with its fortress walls is well-known for its oysters, mussels and salt. The area is covered in vineyards, so a wine tasting tour should definitely be included in your itinerary. The peninsula is home to two of Croatia’s top red wines - Dingac and Postup. Fishing is a big part of life here, and there are excursions where you can become part of a local fishing family, eating the catch of the day and watching the sun set over the Adriatic.

Not far from here is the island of Korcula, the birthplace of Marco Polo. The main town is dominated by its 15th century gothic renaissance bell tower, surrounded by narrow streets and medieval architecture and inside the cathedral you’ll find two works by Tintoretto. The main part of the town is pedestrianised, making it a peaceful place to wander or to people watch from one of the many cafes.
