Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.
December to March, is the Wildebeest calving season. In April and May, the rut begins and the plains dry out so the herd begin the journey north. June and July, the migration gathers momentum and the herds enter the Serengeti Western Corridor. It's here that the wildebeest and their newborn calves meet their first serious barrier in the form of the Grumeti River and its vast crocodiles. Between August and November, the migration reaches its northern range: the grasslands on either bank of the crocodile-infested Mara River which the herds must cross not once, but twice, as they complete their migration.

Description
Serengeti Safari Camp offers a unique opportunity to view the Serengeti wildebeest migration and the substantial herds of resident game. The camp is “semi nomadic” and shadows the migration, enabling guests to get as close to the migration as possible.
Serengeti Safari Camp is a traditional mobile tented camp which moves through the season from the grassy plain to rolling wooded hills and dramatic granite kopjes, all within the national park. The camp itself is small and built in classic safari style, with only six comfortable walk-in tents, each with its own en suite bathroom, with flush loo and bucket shower.
It offers a wonderful "Out of Africa" experience, staying in a tented camp, waking to the sunrise and bird calls with a cup of hot tea or coffee brought to your tent, and in the evenings sitting around the campfire mulling over the day's wildlife sightings.
The camp changes location every few weeks but not during your stay. Camp movements are pre-planned in an effort to be within reach of the wildebeest migration, but this cannot always be guaranteed given the unpredictability of nature according to weather conditions.
Serengeti Safari Camp offers both shared games drives and also the opportunity to pre-book a private 4x4 vehicle with an experienced Tanzanian driver-guide throughout their stay, allowing complete flexibility to tailor the safari to their own particular interests. Walking safaris, bush picnics and cook out breakfasts are a few of the many Serengeti Safari Camp experiences, and are offered wherever possible, depending on the camp location.
Accommodation
The six tents are light in their footprint, but with all that anyone might need in their own bush home: spacious tents with deeply comfortable beds, a roomy dressing area, and then an ensuite bathroom with a low water usage bio-degradable flush toilet, and traditional safari style bucket showers with hot and cold water on demand. One of the tents is designed as a family tent.
Childcare
Serengeti Safari Camp is not suited to very young children and therefore only those aged 8 and above are accepted in camp. Food and meal times can be adjusted to suit the requirements of the children and babysitting can be arranged for those that need it. Please note, there is a restriction of 12 years and over on any walking or fly camping activities.
Facilities
Due to its 'nomadic' nature, the camp is very simple but with plenty of small details which make your stay comfortable. There is a library and lounge tent, as well as a dining tent where delicious camp cuisine is served.
Activities
Game drives are in either shared or private 4WD vehicles with a personal guide to take you on daily game drives and great birding. There is an opportunity to see the great wildebeest and zebra migration, large herds of plains game and the highest concentrate of predators in Africa. If you would prefer a private vehicle this needs to be pre-booked in advance at an additional cost.

The camp is very beautiful and in a private area. The guiding and service here is typical of nomad - excellent. For a mobile tented camp you really cannot get much better. The tents are very comfortable and private each with an incredible view over the plains. When I was there it was located in the Western Corridor and we had brilliant Lion and Hyena sightings, after hearing them at night we had to find them!

We stayed at Serengeti Safari Camp in November and the thing that really struck me was the wonderful position that Nomad have chosen, with stunning views out over the park. The tents are simple, but extremely comfortable and the beds are so cosy! The highlight of our stay was a rare wild-dog sighting - a highlight of the whole trip in fact! Our guides were wonderful and we even managed to see a small river-crossing.

We arrived at Serengeti Safari Camp in June where it was in its second stage of following the Great Migration as the wildebeest make their magnificent journey across the Serengeti and into the Masai Mara, following the seasonal rains.
The camp was situated on the edge of a woodland and overlooking a flat plain where the wildebeest would gather. Nomad always get fantastic spots, wherever they move the camp to in order to guarantee the best game viewing. The rooms are basic but very comfortable with hot bucket showers and flushing long drop loos.
After dinner everyone heads out to the camp fire where you can hear the wildebeest grunting away to one another and the lion roaring in the distance.

One of Tanzanias greatest spectacles is the wildebeest migration as it passes through the Serengeti; over a million wildebeest and nearly the same number of zebra follow the seasonal rains as they circle this enormous park. Given the weathers fluctuations, and the different paths the rain may take, the best way to see this incredible phenomenon is to stay at a mobile camp which is able to swiftly move to the best position for seeing the migration. Serengeti Safari Camp is one such camp, perfectly portable and yet providing a good level of comfort for guests. Just six meru style tents with comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms with a traditional bucket shower and chemical loo are dotted in the bush each side of the main mess and dining tents, comfortably if not luxuriously furnished. The emphasis here is not on luxury in the bush but on seeking the best sightings of the wildebeest migration. The camp is able to move in a day, meaning that as the migration moves, the camp can follow closely. In the evenings, a large fire is lit at the front of camp before a hearty and filling supper is served. This camp is best combined with a more luxurious option in the Serengeti to get a full overview of the migration, and is certainly for those wildlife enthusiasts!

Serengeti Safari Camp is a very classic and traditional camp which moves around the Serengeti National Par, generally following the wildebeest migration. Nomad Tanzania find beautiful sites for the camp. When I stayed the camp was in a nestled amid kopjes and clumps of forest. Game drives are early morning and early afternoon. Because the Serengeti is a national park, there are no night drives or walks, and no off road driving.
The game viewing is excellent though and you won't have to go too far before coming across game.
The tents are fairly basic, as the camp is semi-nomadic and moves several times during the year to keep up with the migration. The beds are perfectly comfortable and the bathrooms (separated by a canvas door) are well equipped with a flush loo, a bucket shower and two wash basins. Jugs of warm and cold water are provided every evening.
The Serengeti is quite a busy place, you will see other cars, but that's probably what you'd expect with such great game and the migration passing right through it.
