Description
Located in Chefchaouen, the blue city of Morocco, Lina Ryad & Spa offers a peaceful retreat in the hustle and bustle of the medina. The terrace offers beautiful views across the city, while the spa has a range of treatments for the ultimate relaxation.
A small and beautifully designed riad in the mystical blue town of Chefchaouen, Lina Ryad enjoys a privileged position at the top of the ancient Medina with a maze of winding blue streets tumbling down the gentle hillside below with the dramatic Rif Mountains framing the whole tableau.
On entry into the riad, large banquettes of deep blue velvet sofas bring the outside in and it's here that breakfast is served daily within the cool tadelakt walls. Venture further, and there's an inviting indoor pool that can be booked for your exclusive use, as well as traditional hamman and massage treatments.
The riad, being housed in an old building, does not have a lift but climbing the flights of stairs to any one of the suites, with their cool tile floors, large en-suite bathrooms and sitting areas, you'll be rewarded by access to terraces that offer panoramic views of Chefchaouen's blue buildings as well as the river and valley beyond.
Personalized service is a hallmark here, whether it's help ordering a bottle of wine from outside the riad to enjoy on the terraces or recommendations for dinner in the town below. Chefchaouen is so small, charming and manageable, you're never far from great food or another great photo opportunity offering pots of bright geraniums against the impossibly blue streets, buildings and sky.
Accommodation
Lina Ryad has sixteen rooms but no two are alike in this jewel-like boutique hotel. Cool white tile floors and white walls set off blue accents to match the town below. Some rooms have stained glass (in various shades of blue, of course).
All rooms have complimentary WiFi, modern en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, a fridge, kettle and bottles of water provided, LCD televisions on which you can order a variety of films and documentaries, and several are larger "suite" size offering generous seating areas, a sofabed, and access to the terrace.
Childcare
There are no adjoining rooms at Lina Ryad but children are welcome and will be enchanted by Chefchaouen. Some rooms do have sofabeds and the riad has one twin room.
Facilities
A continental breakfast is served in the hotel lobby every morning, with yogurt, breads, Moroccan pancakes and various jams. Dinner can be arranged in advance.
Activities
For guests who wish to indulge, the pool can be booked exclusively, and is best enjoyed when accompanied by traditional hammam and massage treatments. Outside the hotel, Chefchaouen is easy to navigate and ripe for exploration. All roads converge on Plaza Uta el-Hammam and its restored kasbah that offers a lovely garden, small art gallery and ethnographic museum. Climb to the top for the second best views in town (after those from the Lina Ryad terrace!).
For the more active, the Rif Mountains also offer fantastic hiking opportunities. While Chefchaouen is easily explored in a day and alone, we do recommend a guide for hiking.
Reviews
Rachael Mendizabal (Staff)
Perched on the hill in the upper part of the blue city, Chefchaouen, Lina Ryad has a sense of tranquillity within its cool walls. Themed with traditional blue colors to match the city outside, the views from the rooftop terrace are charming. There is a central pool which can be booked for private use, alongside a small spa that provides a hammam experience. Breakfast is taken in the comfortable lobby, on blue couches and serves up Moroccan pancakes and breads, eggs, and fresh squeezed juices.
