Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – dry (between May to September) and wet (between October to April) – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Bali at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.

Itinerary

The islands of the Indonesian archipelago stretch almost 5000km from the Asian mainland into the Pacific Ocean and they are rich in beauty, culture and mystery. This itinerary offers guests the chance to experience a range of Indonesia’s most iconic destinations whilst offering a wide variety of activities from diving the underwater world to trekking and much more.

  1. Days 1-5: Ubud

    The lush, dramatic slopes of Ubud are the perfect place to begin your active adventure around Indonesia. Known as the cultural heart of Bali, Ubud is an inspiring town that offers visitors unique experiences in every direction. Wander through local villages by foot passing verdant rice paddies and grassy hilltops or if getting on the water appeals to you we can arrange river rafting where you will glide down one of Ubud’s many waterways passing through tropical rainforest and sleepy villages all the time watching out for the local monkeys swinging in the trees.

    Included in this itinerary is a guided cycling tour from the village of Kintamani, balanced on the ridge of Mt Batur down the winding slopes of Mount Batur back to Ubud. Also included is a full day tour of Bali’s central highlands where you will visit a local market to sample local delicacies before seeing one of Bali’s most famous water temples. Perched amidst the healing waters of Lake Beratan is the beautiful Ulan Danu Temple where locals and tourists alike can soak in the lakes healing waters. After an optional soak in the invigorating lake continue to the coastal town of Lovina where you will enjoy a traditional lunch overlooking the ocean.

  2. Days 5-12: Sumba Island

    A short flight from Bali is the remote island of Nihi Sumba and you next destination. Located in a tranquil corner of Indonesia this island-resort offers respite and relaxation whilst appealing to those with an adventurous spirit. Slightly off the well-trodden-path, Nihi Sumba offers an exotic mix of remote location, understated luxury and a wide range of activities.

    Try your hand at learning to surf or discover the abundant marine life on a diving or snorkeling trip. If staying above water appeals learn how to spear-fish or even stand up paddle board or opt to enjoy a sunset horse ride on the beach. Nihi Sumba offers guests a huge choice of both adrenalin-fuelled activities whilst providing traditional services such a spa therapies and unusual dining experiences. With something for one and all, a stay at Nihi won’t disappoint.

  3. Days 12-15: Seminyak

    After a few nights on Nihi Sumba, return to Bali's south coast where you will enjoy your last couple of days in the beachside resort of Seminyak. Famed for its exclusive dining experiences and sensational sunsets, here you can relax enjoying the delights of your waterfront accommodation before you journey home.

    Travel by boat 1-hour from the resort and dive to the FAD to snorkel with the ocean's inhabitants. Guests can also try their hand with a spear and attempt to catch a fish for the chef to cook for lunch or sashimi for dinner.
