The rainy season on the Lamu Coast is generally May/June. So from July onward the weather is gradually getting hotter and dryer until March/April when it reaches the high 90's (over 40 degrees C). Christmas/New Year is generally considered the peak season and the weather is lovely from December to February with constant sunshine and gentle off shore breezes. November and March are shoulder months and typically the hottest times of year. June to October are the coolest months when snorkeling and fishing are not possible but days are sunny and families wishing to avoid the heat often find this a lovely time of year to stay.

Kizingoni Kuni Jogoo House has a superb beachfront position, overlooking the Lamu beach and channel. The house is built in a U-shape around a central swimming pool and has been designed to maximize the panoramic views.
Kuni Jogoo is spacious and beautiful in its design, with intricately carved doors, antique furnishings, traditional Lamu beds and bright kikoi safari chairs. A curved coral staircase leads down to the beach directly in front of the house, and the numerous plants and trees help maintain the house's privacy as well as providing a home for resident birdlife.
There are five airy bedrooms here, four on the ground floor and the master suite on the upper level. All have been individually designed and have their own veranda from which you can enjoy stunning sea views. The whole house has been built to keep cool naturally, with shaded verandas and walkways allowing a breeze to circulate throughout the rooms.
The upper floor has plenty of sociable areas to relax and dine in. The main baraza area has a bar and seating with colorful cushions made from the local kanga fabrics, an ideal spot for reading during the day or sundowner drinks in the evening. Nearby, the dining terrace has an uncovered area for dining under the stars, and a covered space for during the heat of the day, and lunches are often served by the pool.
There are five bedrooms at Kizingoni Kuni Jogoo House. On the ground floor are two double rooms and two twin rooms, each en-suite and each with private terraces leading out onto the pool. Upstairs is the spacious master suite with a large terrace to the front which can be closed off for privacy, views from the bed over the beach and two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bath and shower. There is a single bed here which can be used for a small child or as a daybed, and a beautiful large carved mirror behind the main bed which forms the focal point of the room.
Children of all ages are most welcome at Kuni Jogoo House. However, there are no specific child care facilities but babysitting can easily be arranged. It is possible to tailor food requirements to children's tastes and arrange for earlier meal times if required. Lamu and the coast of Kenya is a wonderful place for a family vacation with calm safe waters, endless activities and plenty of cultural interaction.
There is a lovely nine meter swimming pool at the heart of the house which forms the focal point of the property. Around the edges are plenty of areas to soak up the sun, or retreat in the shade if you prefer. From the pool area you look across pretty gardens down the sand dune onto the Lamu beach, watching dhows sailing along the channel.
There are numerous traditional swing beds with colorful cushions where you can have an afternoon siesta or relax with a good book. The upper level baraza is a popular spot for playing games, entertaining before and after dinner and taking in the sunset panoramas. The bar on the first floor has a music system, too.
A variety of water sports are available at Kuni Jogoo House, including sailing, waterskiing, wake boarding, donuting and windsurfing. You can take a leisurely sundowner sail in Kilindini, a luxurious dhow one evening. Other activities on the Indian Ocean include fishing, snorkeling and kayaking. A guide can accompany you to the UNESCO World Heritage site Lamu Town nearby for a day of culture and photography, or if you fancy a spot of shopping, you can head over to Shela village. The staff and guides at Kuni Jogoo are there to ensure you have everything you need.
