The gardens at Birr Castle, seat of the Earls of Rosse in County Offaly, are an absolute jewel, and contain some of the largest and rarest tree species in Ireland. Originally landscaped in the eighteenth century, the gardens contain the world's tallest box hedges, and they are also home to Ireland’s historic Science Center, where visitors can travel back to the time to when Birr Castle was a hub of scientific discovery and innovation. Private visits to the castle, hosted by Lord & Lady Rosse, can be arranged for groups.
