The Grouse Grind is a self-guided hike directly up the ridge of Grouse Mountain to the base of the cable car and a favorite with fitness fanatic Vancouver locals.
For fitness fanatics only - challenge yourself with the Grouse Grind, a gruelling speed hike known as 'Mother Nature's stairmaster' for good reason. This hike is almost entirely steep uphill and takes you 2,800 feet from the bottom to the top of the cable car. It is hiked over 100,000 times per year and while the record stands at a little under 24 minutes, anything under an hour is considered pretty good. The good news is that on arrival at the top, the various attractions atop Grouse Mountain await and you can take the cable car back down to admire your effort.
Costs around C$10 for the download on the cable car. The Grouse Grind is closed for winter while the trail is covered in snow.
