Iona is one of the most magical islands in the Hebrides and one of the most important Christian sites in Britain. Founded in 563 AD by St Columba, an Irish monk who spread Christianity throughout the western isles and Scotland, its famous abbey, now fully restored, is an extraordinarily atmospheric place, and you will have the chance to visit before the crowds arrive.

After enjoying lunch, you will continue by boat for the island of Staffa and Fingal's Cave, celebrated in Mendelsson's Hebridean Overture. The spectacular basalt columns are best seen from the sea, so you do not land on Staffa but will take the opportunity to visit to the Puffin colony at the north-west area of the island of Staffa. These comical birds with their brightly coloured beaks are a delight to view during their breeding season from late April to July.
