Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

Sabora is completely unfenced so animals are free to wander through and around the camp and they come to drink at the nearby watering hole which the camp overlooks. This is the ideal base for couples and families, with just nine safari vehicles (for three camps) covering an area almost the size of the Maasai Mara.

The nine-cottage Sasakwa Lodge provides the most luxurious accommodation, with beautiful, colonial-style decor, private infinity pools, four-poster beds and claw-footed bathtubs. Sabora Tented Camp comprises nine sumptuous Bedouin-style tents on an open plain; the more cutting-edge Faru Faru Lodge has nine stone, canvas and thatched suites in shady woodland on the Grumeti River. An exclusive new mobile camp, Singita Explore, was launched in June 2011.

X-factor 'The South African design group Cecile & Boyd's has created four wonderfully evocative worlds at Singita Grumeti,' says Gold List contributor Peter Browne. 'Each is distinctive, multi-layered and lavishly attended to. The detailing is just sensational.'
