Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

Dunia Camp is an eight tented female run safari camp in the southern part of the Serengeti, Tanzania. This area is famous for the Great Migration, expect to see an abundance of lion, leopard and cheetah and perhaps even the elusive black rhino.
The Moru Kopjes, perched between the territories of Ndutu and Seronera, contain arguably the most breathtaking scenery that the Serengeti has to offer. Surreal rock formations protrude out from the plains and provide big cats with the perfect viewpoint to overlook their territories. Here, you will find Dunia Camp, which is perfectly situated, allowing access to some of the best game viewing areas available in the Serengeti.
Dunia Camp is a permanent tented camp in the south central Serengeti, entirely operated and staffed by women. Serengeti’s game viewing can be experienced all year round here, however the best time to visit is between early April to early July to make the most of the Great Migration.
The camp retains all of the charm of a mobile camp, with evenings spent around the campfire with other guests before and after dinner. However, it is a more permanent camp, with tents set on elevated wooden platforms to enjoy lovely views over the savannah and acacia woodland, particularly from the verandah to the front of each tent. To the back of each tent is an ensuite bathroom with flush loo, bucket shower and running water at the double basins. Arguably Dunia has an ideal balance between a mobile camp's atmosphere and the creature comforts of a permanent camp.
There are eight tented rooms are Dunia Camp, set on a wooden platform to make the most of the views over the Serengeti. Each tent has a private veranda with a day bed and great views to watch the animals wander past. The en-suite has a double sink, a flush loo and a traditional bucket shower. The tents either have a large comfortable double bed or twin beds. There is limited electricity available in the tents, enough to power lights and there is a charging dock in the main mess tent to charge cameras and other appliances.
Dunia welcomes children of 6 years and over. The camp guarantees a private safari vehicle to families of 4 or more during the low season, but during high season families with children under 12 are obliged to use a private game-viewing vehicle at extra cost.
There are two communal mess and lounge tents for guests to meet and relax. The main area is the focal point of the camp and it has wonderful views out on to the Serengeti plains. If you would like to make an evening special, you can organise to have a private dinner on the veranda of your tent. There is also a bar at the camp.
The main activity at Dunia is game drives and guests can do morning and afternoon drives as well as a full day game drive with a picnic lunch. The guiding here is second to none and the game viewing is phenomenal with huge populations of elephants and lions. If you are lucky you may also be able to spot the elusive black rhino.
Hot air balloon rides at sunrise can also be organized at an additional cost.

Relaxed tented camp run by ladies. There are now a few men who work there but the camp is run and managed by women which is a really lovely change to the norm. The atmosphere is wonderful and the tents spacious and comfortable.

Dunia has a prime position in the South-Central Serengeti perched atop a hill with phenomenal views of the Serengeti Plains and each of the eight Meru style tents look out over the eastern plains.
Our guide Earnest was absolutely brilliant and took us away from the areas that can often get very crowded. We were lucky enough to get a fantastic cheetah sighting as the sun set and we had to head back to camp. The next morning we went on an early morning game drive before heading to the airstrip and were lucky enough to see a pride of young lions is the road watching as their mother taught them how to hunt.
Dunia has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and in the evenings everyone gathers around the fire to discuss the days adventures before heading into the main tent for dinner listening to the hyena chattering away and getting ready for their nighttime hunt.
