The hotel is located in the grain elevator portion of the historic silo complex originally built in 1921. After 80 years of being at the heart of South Africa’s industrial and agricultural development, the grain silo ceased operating in 2001. After years of careful planning and intricate architectural design, the whole complex has been restored with the hotel occupying six floors above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) which is set to rival the likes of London’s Tate Modern or New York’s MoMa. While every effort has been made to restore the building to its former glory, the most striking addition is the floor-to-ceiling windows blending contemporary design with 1920s industrial architecture.
The Silo has just 28 rooms across seven different room categories including four family suites. The different rooms and suites all vary in size with views out over the harbour front or mountains. There are endless facilities for guests to enjoy including a number of different bars and restaurants. The roof top champagne bar boasts 360 degree views of the city as does the glass sided roof top swimming pool. The Silo Spa allows for ultimate indulgence and is the perfect way to unwind after a busy day exploring the city.
