Summer and winter in Oslo are polar opposites; in the summer it hardly gets dark and the weather is very warm and pleasant with sunshine continuously both day and night! There is more chance of rain in the spring and summer season but the sun is a more regular occurrence.

Winter in Norway is much colder and Oslo will be transformed into a snowy winter wonderland. Take warm clothes and there isn't anything to stop you carrying on with your holiday with relative ease and comfort. Bear in mind it is dark a lot of the day as well as night.

Stockholm is a year round destination but is at its best in spring, summer and December. From May to September temperatures are warm, early twenties but in the height of summer can reach up to 30 degrees and the sun doesn't set until around 10:30pm, rising at around 3:00am so you can really pack a lot in! During the winter temperatures do get cold but it is a great place to go for a pre-Christmas getaway.

The summer weather in Denmark is pleasantly warm and from June to August has temperatures averaging 22 - 30C. During the winter months (December to February) it is much colder and often only has highs of 4C, however due to how built up some of the city is, it can seem warmer

Itinerary

Day 1-3

Oslo

After arriving in Oslo, enjoy a private transfer into the capital to relax in the refined elegance of the landmark Amerikalinjen Hotel. Refreshed and energised, a private walking tour around the city will acquaint you with the major sights, while your guide explains the history and culture of the Norwegian capital.

For those new to the city, a walking tour is a wonderful way to get acclimatised. Learn about Oslo’s main street, Karl Johans Gate. Not only is it bustling with shops and cafes, but many important landmarks are found along the way, including the Royal Palace, the University, the National Theatre, the Norwegian Parliament, and Oslo Cathedral. The itinerary also includes a visit to the City Hall Gallery, where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held. The building is lined with beautiful frescoes and is home to some of Norway’s most prestigious artworks.

Equally impressive is the Oslo Opera House, home to the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet. Located right on the harbour, the striking contemporary design with an angled white exterior, large-scale glass windows and panoramic rooftop views, is a highlight of the city. Adjacent to this is Oslo’s modern and dynamic library, Deichmanske Bibliotek, which also houses a cinema, games zones, lounges, and a restaurant.

The following day sees a chance to deepen your knowledge and appreciation of the city and its environs, with an Oslo Highlights Driving Tour. As you drive past the main city highlights you will learn more about the history of Norway’s connection to the Nobel Peace prize, the City Hall Gallery, the Royal Palace, Norwegian Parliament, and National Theatre.

As the Norwegians enjoy spending their leisure time in the great outdoors, you will then leave the city behind and head up to the suburb of Holmenkollen. With some of the best views of the city and its surrounding forests and fjords, its most famous landmark is the Holmenkolbakken Ski Jump and ski facilities. There is also a Skiing Museum located under the ski jump, buried deep into the mountainside.

Accommodation: Amerikalinjen ( 2 nights )
Day 3-6

Stockholm and Eastern Sweden

Next stop is the Swedish capital, Stockholm. After flying into Arlanda Airport, you will be transferred to the city’s Bank Hotel, a blend of historic and contemporary design, it is perfectly located for exploring Stockholm’s network of picturesque islands.

The following day is an opportunity to take a 90-minute guided stroll through the Old Town, Gamla Stan to discover the oldest part of the city dating back to the 13th century. An atmospheric labyrinth of cobbled streets, medieval alleyways and squares, the tour takes in many of the city’s most famous historic landmarks, including the Royal Palace, the formal home of the Swedish Monarchy. First established as a 15th century fortress, the site was expanded in the 16th century into a Baroque palace and is one of the largest in the world, with over 1,400 rooms. You will also explore Riddarholmen, an area of the Old Town with many historic buildings, including 13th century Riddarholmen Church, a former medieval abbey. Other highlights include the chance to see Sweden’s smallest statue, Järnpojken, (Iron Man), and to experience the area’s most narrow alleyway, Marten Trotzigs Grand (Martin Trotzigs Alley). We’d recommend wearing comfortable shoes for walking over cobblestones.

For those interested in Swedish cuisine, the following day is a chance to cook your own lunch, with a two-hour cookery lesson, during which you will learn the secret to cooking authentic Swedish meatballs. If you like the sound of elk meatballs in a creamy sauce served with Sweden’s famous lingonberries, pickled cucumber, and potato puree, you will love the opportunity for a Swedish chef to teach you how to prepare and cook this meal. During the class, the chef will be happy to answer all your questions about Swedish cuisine. Smaklig måltid!

Accommodation: Bank Hotel ( 3 nights )
Day 6-9

Copenhagen

Today, you leave scenic Stockholm to fly to the delightful Danish capital, Copenhagen, where you will be based at Villa Copenhagen. Formerly the Central Post & Telegraph Office, this historic building has been thoughtfully restored with contemporary Nordic flair into a sophisticated hotel with impressive sustainability credentials.

After a good night’s sleep, get ready to cycle from one royal attraction to another, on a four-hour bike tour of Copenhagen’s handsome palaces, renaissance castle, and neo-classicist cathedral. Your expert guide will help you get the most from this trip, with insider knowledge to enhance the experience. The tour includes entry to Christiansborg Palace, home to the Danish Parliament, as well as Rosenborg Castle, where you can see the Danish Crown Jewels along with an extensive collection of royal regalia. The ride also passes by the Amalienborg Palace, the main residence of the Danish Royal Family and there’s a chance to explore Copenhagen Cathedral, where the Crown Prince and Princess married in 2004. The city is extremely cycle-friendly, and the cycling is mainly on flat surfaces. Bikes and helmets are provided. We recommend bringing a water bottle.

For a more relaxing way to explore parts of the city difficult to view on foot or cycle, the next day you can sit back and enjoy a canal journey taking in the city’s historic and modern landmarks. Hop aboard for a one-hour boat tour to soak up the sights from the comfort of your sightseeing boat. The tour takes you past both Copenhagen’s newest attractions, including the Black Diamond and most famous attractions, including the Little Mermaid and the Amalienborg Palace. As you glide through the canals of Christianshavn, your guide will explain the history of the city, along with relating engaging tales of King Christian IV. The tour includes a complimentary drink.

After a delicious Danish breakfast on your last morning, your driver will take you on the 45-minute journey to Kastrup Airport for your return flight home.
