Dating back to 1912, the neo-baroque Central Post & Telegraph Office has been sympathetically restored into one of Copenhagen’s most striking hotels. There is an abundance of creativity on display in the smart blend of historic and modern design. The hotel describes itself as offering ‘conscious luxury,’ as along with its chic and stylish interiors, it has focused on sustainability using renewable energy, recycled materials, and local suppliers. Guests are welcomed into a huge courtyard atrium with a vast glass ceiling, where you can enjoy a glass of wine and enjoy pop-up events, activities, and exhibitions. Unusually for Copenhagen there is not only an outdoor swimming pool but also green urban space to be enjoyed on the rooftop garden.
The 390 rooms and suites feature modern Nordic-designed interiors with many original features. Expect high ceilings, herringbone floors, original windows, huge comfy beds, marble bathrooms with underfloor heating, rainforest walk-in shower, organic toiletries, and complimentary vanity kits. You will also find a complimentary coffee machine, HDTV with streaming access and a fully stocked minibar. Room categories range from Standard Rooms to Family Rooms sleeping two adults and a child under 12 years, up to Junior Suites featuring a lounge area.
Villa Copenhagen has a choice of dining venues. The breakfast restaurant, Villa Breakfast is housed in the atmospheric former sorting office. Natural sunlight pours into the high ceiled room which overlooks the sunken garden, making this is a great place to start the day. For warm elegance and a convivial ambience, head to Konstrast Brasserie serving the best of North African and Southern Europe cuisine, using homegrown and local sustainable ingredients. For casual dining, coffee or a glass of wine, the Courtyard Bar under the soaring glass ceiling is a great place to hang out, while the T37 wine and cocktail bar boasts original marble features and wooden floor, and is a wonderful spot for sharing a drink with friends. Alternatively, the vibrant Pool Bar has a youthful vibe, making it a cool spot to see and be seen. Cleverly heated by the excess heat from the hotel’s cooling system, the 25-metre rooftop pool is a rare treat in Copenhagen. Along with a bar, guests will find a sauna and well-equipped fitness room. And if you’ve forgotten your flipflops, fear not, as the hotel sells sustainable slippers made from recycled rubber.
