This morning, meet your guide for the hour-long journey to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, part of the southern Khentii mountain range northeast of Ulaanbaatar. The stunning alpine scenery is a protected habitat for many endangered species, including musk deer, brown bear, wolves and badgers, and the swathes of dense forest and rolling steppes offer endless opportunity for outdoor activities.

Spend the day exploring the picturesque terrain on foot or horseback as well as enjoying lunch at a local hotel in a picturesque setting overlooking the river. Begin with a visit to the natural rock formation Turtle Rock, so named for its remarkable resemblance to its namesake, before embarking on a hike to the Aryabal Monastery. After crossing the suspended ‘Bridge that leads to Wisdom’ and scaling 108 steps, you will reach this sacred Buddhist temple with its phenomenal views over the national park. Spend some time exploring this hallowed place that dates back to 1810, before descending the steps and starting the drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
