Itinerary

Leap into this fantastic world, where the lakes meet the mountains, the ideal playground for outdoorsy families in the summer. Northern Italy offers some of the country's most magnificent scenery and is perfect to indulge in adventurous fun with all the family. Explore beautiful Lake Garda before escaping to the fresh mountain air of the Dolomites, where a plethora of outdoor adventures await.

  1. Fly to Verona

  2. Days 1-4: Italian Lakes

After a seamless transfer your family adventure will start at the largest of the country's lakes, Garda. Here, the glassy water laps at the shoreline, where charming villages are nestled on each side of the lake. Spend your days sampling delicious gelato, exploring the delightful towns such as Sirmione in the south or Malcesine in the east, taking in beautiful scenery and quaint, colourful streets and stopping off for pizza to refuel.

You will be staying at the family-friendly Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort, located just moments from the town of Riva del Garda and surrounded by the spectacular mountains. Boasting huge gardens to roam and a first-class activity centre offering a wealth of water and land-based adventures. You can all take part in sailing and windsurfing on the clear waters of the lake or cycling through the parkland gardens. Not forgetting the epic kids club, two swimming pools, tennis courts, and the Armonia Spa. The best way to get out and explore the lake is from a splendid 35-foot sailing boat with your private guide, take in the incredible views sailing past charming towns and have fun on the crystal clear waters, all whilst being supplied with snacks aplenty on board.  Before leaving the shores of the stunning Lake Garda, be sure to visit the charming village of Malcesine. From here take the cable car into the mountains to Monte Baldo and admire the simply breath-taking views across the lake and follow the hiking trails with your private guide, with the choice to return by cable car or hike back down to the charming town of Malcesine. Back at the resort there is a splendid choice of delicious cuisine or walk out to the town to choose from the abundance of restaurants for you to enjoy in the evenings, offering something for everyone.

Accommodation: Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort (3 nights)

  3. Days 4-8: Summer in the Dolomites

Leap from one stunning landscape to another, the UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site home to dramatic peaks, alpine meadows and lush forests of the Dolomites. This enchanting landscape is perfect for an active family adventure, with the many hiking and biking trails suitable for all levels. You will spend four nights at the beautiful family-run hotel, Rosa Alpina, an authentic yet luxurious mountain cabin nestled in the heart of San Cassiano in Alta Badia. With fabulous restaurants, one of which has 3 Michelin stars, a wonderful spa and beautiful family suites it is a perfect haven to return to after a day exploring the mountains. During the summer, children have complimentary dinner from the tailored children's menu, and this can be served from 6pm. Complimentary hiking sticks and maps, bottled water and bicycle hire – the Rosa Alpina will provide easy-to-follow routes ranging from beginner to difficult.

Head out on hikes with a private guide leading the way or take out one of the hotel's mountain bikes to explore the local area, also available for the children to use. The local tourist board organises a summer activity programme for children, which the hotel can give you information on and help organise if you'd like your children to take part. There is a wonderful selection of thill seeking activities for you to enjoy, the Via Ferrata trail is an awesome experience, literally meaning 'iron path', where you climb the edge of a mountain with the expertise of your mountain guide. The Dolomites has a huge variety of via ferrata from easy to challenging, you will be equipped with metal cables and steps, ladders or sometimes bridges attached to a system of anchored cables. Climbing these routes means you can enjoy the breathtaking vistas normally reserved for mountaineers. Or why not visit the Adventure Park Colfosco in Alta Badia for a family tree-top adventure.
