Set in the countryside near Lake Mývatn in North Iceland, Vallholt Farm is home to Snow Dogs, a family-run business where a close-knit team of mushers cares for around 30 friendly and energetic Siberian Huskies. Alongside the sledding itself, this experience offers an insight into the relationship between the dogs and the family who work with them every day.
Begin with a warm welcome at the kennel, where you'll meet the Huskies and get to know their individual personalities. Friendly and playful by nature, the dogs are always keen to greet visitors before setting off into the snow.
When it's time to depart, take your place in the sled as a team of six to ten Huskies leads the way across the winter landscape. Accompanied by an experienced local musher, you'll travel along a scenic 6 to 8 km trail through the Icelandic countryside. As you glide over snow and ice, your guide will share stories about the dogs and the traditions of sledding, with opportunities to stop for photographs along the route.
Back at the farm, spend some time with the dogs before your experience comes to an end, with plenty of opportunities for photographs and a final farewell to your four-legged companions.
Please note: This experience lasts approximately two hours, including 40 to 60 minutes of dog sledding and time spent at the kennel. Each sled accommodates two to four guests and is guided by an experienced musher. Sledding takes place on snow or ice depending on conditions, and additional warm clothing is available if required.
