The Monaco of Southern Africa, Cape Town is the ultimate city-break with its vibrant nightlife, the iconic Table Mountain and stunning coastal roads. Über-stylish, yet relaxed and decadently laid-back – we think it is a perfect backdrop for a fast-paced Bond thriller.

Asked why he chose Cape Town, Jeffery Deaver said, “I’ve been coming to Cape Town for ten years. I love the country. And true to James Bond novels, Cape Town is exotic and beautiful.”

Here’s our Africa team’s guide to making the most of your time in this glamorous hot-spot, just as 007 himself would.

Day 1
With no jet lag to deal with you’ll want to dive into the action straight away. Base yourself at Kensington Place, Cape Town’s definitive boutique retreat perfectly placed to access to the city’s best restaurants, bars and beaches while giving you a stylish bolthole in which to chill.

Start with a ride up the cableway to the ‘table top’ for awesome views of the city and its iconic coastline.

Then head along the coast road to the Twelve Apostles Hotel for a delicious lunch at Azure Restaurant, overlooking the sea.

Spend the afternoon pottering around the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Even for non-gardeners it is a wonderful showcase for the Cape’s unique indigenous flora and in the summer a different live band plays every Sunday afternoon.

Take a picnic from your hotel and a bottle of Cap Classique. In the evening, have a pre-dinner cocktail followed by a delicious dinner at Kitima.

Day 2
In the morning, take breakfast in private on your balcony at Kensington Place and soak up the first rays of sun. Your hire car will be dropped off at the hotel and you can take one of the world’s most scenic drives around the headland of Chapman’s Peak to the sweeping arc of Noordhoek Beach, where you can go horse-riding on the sand.

Get the sand between your toes or take a ride along the beach then have a lazy lunch at The Foodbarn where you’ll be delighted by Franck Dangereux’s inventive menu. Take the route through Constantia on your way back into town and stop at one of the area’s many excellent wine farms for a free tasting and possibly a few purchases!

Stay for dinner at La Colombe at Constantia Uitsig for classic and exquisite French cuisine.

Day 3
Before you leave you must take in Cape Point, not quite the most southerly point of the African continent but certainly a windswept and beautiful spot that feels like the end of the earth; with nothing but miles of ocean between you and Antarctica.

You may not yet have had a chance to satisfy your retail urges so head to The Old Biscuit Mill at Woodstock to experience the fantastic market which sells everything from cheese and champagne to beads and clothes as well as lots of gorgeous Africana.

With all the tastings on offer you won’t need lunch! Your final afternoon should be spent sipping a cocktail and absorbing the last sights and sounds of this incredible city at a beach-view bar in Clifton or Camps Bay before (very sadly) boarding your overnight flight back to London.
