I was born to an American mother and British father who travelled a lot for his job within an international Non-Governmental Organisation. As such, travel has always been in my blood. I have a Masters in Responsible Tourism Management and am passionate about sustainability in travel.
I lived for 10 years in San Diego (and a few in San Francisco) where I worked for two hotels and then for a student travel company based at San Diego State University. After moving back to the UK in 2012, I spent 10 years working for a tour operator focussing on Scandinavia and Europe. During this time, I travelled extensively throughout the region. My top travel highlights include experiencing true luxury on-board the Venice Simplon Orient Express (twice!), seeing the northern lights multiple times – the most impressive being from a glass igloo in Finnish Lapland and from a snowmobile in Swedish Lapland. Another highlight was circumnavigating Svalbard on board an expedition ship, and seeing a walrus up close. Visiting Greenland and hiking on the Greenlandic ice cap was also amazing.

My hot picks
Belmond Hotel Cipriani, Venice, ItalyLocated a 5-minute water taxi ride away from St Mark’s Square, the hotel is set in beautiful gardens complete with an Olympic-sized pool. Choose a Premium Lagoon View Room for lovely views across the Venetian lagoon from your large balcony.
Treehotel, Harads, SwedenWith only 8 rooms and designed by famed Swedish architects, Treehotel is a truly unique property. Built in harmony with the local environment, Treehotel is one of my favourite hotels in Scandinavia.
My top tips
In Swedish Lapland, Northern Norway, or Finnish Lapland, participate in a Sami cultural excursion. Learn about the Sami people who are indigenous to the area and how living harmoniously with nature, particularly reindeer, is intrinsic to their lifestyle.
To enhance your chances of seeing the northern lights, take an evening excursion away from any light pollution. Being out in nature with dark skies will significantly increase your chances of seeing the lights.
Go back in time and experience the golden age of travel on the Venice Simplon Orient Express. For true opulence, upgrade to a Grand Suite, where you’ll have your own private en-suite bathroom, free flowing champagne and caviar on arrival.
