The highlights of Zambia in a short but sweet week-long itinerary.
Head out a famous walking safari in South Luangwa National Park.
Take a boat trip down the Zambezi whilst staying in the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.
If you're short on time but still want to see the highlights of Zambia, this week-long itinerary is perfect. Starting in Livingstone explore the impressive Victoria Falls and surrounds before heading to the Lower Zambezi National Park in search for game and then ending at the stunning South Luangwa National Park on a famed walking safari to get up close and personal with the bush and game like never before.
Start your week away in the town of Livingstone, located on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. One of the seven natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls is truly a sight to behold. A stay in Livingstone is not complete without a visit to this impressive sight, especially during the wet season if the water is in full flow. There are activities galore in this area, particularly for the thrill seekers. With a bungee jump available for the bravest and kayaking for the adventurous, there's plenty of activities for all. We recommend taking a tranquil sunset cruise down the Zambezi or taking afternoon tea for those wanting something a bit more chilled.
After a short flight from Livingstone, your next stop is at the Lower Zambezi National Park. This beautiful park lies on the north banks of the Zambezi River and offers a pristine wilderness experience for anyone visiting. During a stay in the Lower Zambezi you will head out on game drives, and when the water levels are high enough on a boat cruise. Both of these activities offer plenty of opportunity to spot some of the incredible game that lives in the park. Keep an eye out for buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard and many bird and antelope species; whilst on the river you have a very good chance of spotting crocodile and hippo too.
After a short flight from Jeki Airstrip in the Lower Zambezi your holiday continues as you land in Mfuwe Airport for a stay in South Luangwa National Park. You will spend the next two nights here exploring this wonderful part of Zambia. South Luangwa is the home of the walking safari and we recommend you make the most of some brilliant guiding on a walking safari or two during your stay here. Game drives are still available for when you want to explore the South Luangwa a little further and is a great way to see how big this park truly is. When not on game activities, you can spend your last couple of days relaxing around camp.
The Zambezi is renowned for truly spectacular canoeing as it provides you with the chance to see game from a wholly different perspective...looking up at it instead of down!
The Zambezi River is host to some of the most incredible fresh water sport fishing in the world with both spinning and fly fishing, on a strictly catch and release policy according to the park rules. The most popular quarry is the infamous Tigerfish.
Game drives are the most common way of exploring the African bush. A vehicle allows you to cover distance quickly and comfortably and offers visitors the best opportunity of getting very close to wildlife in a safe and controlled way.
Game viewing in the Lower Zambezi National Park, with varying options such as game drives, boat and canoe safaris, or bush walks, is the highlight of any safari trip to Zambia.
