Days 1-4: Bangkok
Welcome to Bangkok, Thailand’s vibrant and buzzing capital, where cutting-edge gleaming skyscrapers contrast with ornamental ancient temples and bustling floating markets. Upon arrival you’ll be met and whisked off to a stunning and luxurious riverside escape, your home for the next three nights. With Art Deco inspired interiors, infused with antique Oriental influences, The Siam feels more of a hip retreat than a traditional urban hotel. Rooms are super spacious and stylish, and some boast the luxury of a private pool, ideal for escaping the heat and humidity of the city. Enjoy evening cocktails out on the lawn in a serene riverfront setting, whilst taking in the city’s twinkling skyline.
Bangkok is full to the brim with fascinating places waiting to be discovered. A morning tour with a private guide is a great way to ease you into the city’s fast pace whilst also helping you tick off some of the most famous landmarks. Hop onboard a traditional long-tail boat to explore the tangled maze of canals, known as klongs, that wind through the city and are a window into local life. Visit the famous colorful floating markets and watch the vendors jostling their boats along the canals, selling their wares of exotic fruits and spicy snacks. The eye-catching Grand Palace with its dazzling golden temples and sacred Emerald Buddha, is a definite must, as is Wat Pho, home to the iconic 45-meter long reclining Buddha! Why not finish off your day in style at one of the lively roof-top bars or hottest new restaurants in town.
Accommodation: The Siam (3 nights)
Days 4-6: Golden Triangle
Fly to Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand, which lies in the heart of the Golden Triangle with spectacular views of neighboring Myanmar, Laos and the Mekong River. Spend your days exploring the area, trekking alongside rescued elephants and bathing them in the river, visiting traditional hill tribes or simply watching the world go by as you float down the Mekong on a traditional long-tail boat. For those looking to push themselves, there are treks into the remotest corners of the jungle and mountain biking excursions along winding trails. Or perhaps you’d like to visit a local market and learn how to cook the perfect Pad Thai with a cookery masterclass.
Tucked into 160 acres of ancient jungle, the Anantara Golden Triangle is a stunning place to stay whilst exploring this fascinating historical, cultural and adventurous region. The low-key resort seamlessly fuses Thai architecture and décor with international high standards and luxurious flourishes. Its unique onsite elephant camp modelled on a traditional mahout village is the perfect place to become acquainted with these gentle giants first-hand.
After all that excitement, we recommend paying a visit to Anantara's signature spa, perched high above the jungle, it uses ancient Thai remedies along with pioneering treatments from across the globe to ensure a revitalising experience. Alternatively make a splash in the magnificent free form infinity-edged swimming pool, order an ice-cold beer and enjoy an unforgettable sunset over the forest canopy and Mekong River.
Accommodation: Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort (2 nights)
Days 6-9: Chiang Mai
Next up, drive through the verdant hills dotted with paddy fields to Chiang Mai, the country’s cultural northern hub, surrounded by mountains and lush countryside. There is so much to see and do here in Thailand’s second largest city. You could easily spend days just exploring the myriad of beautiful temples. We have included a fascinating guided tour that will immerse you into Chiang Mai’s rich cultural and spiritual traditions. Rise early to visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, located high above the city, where you’ll witness an incredible sunrise and watch as barefoot monks begin their procession. Walk around the pagoda and golden stupa, before continuing to Wat Umong, famous for its maze of tunnels and caves, and finish with a traditional blessing from one of the monks.
The famous Night Bazar is a must, a treasure trove of market stalls, the air spiced with the tantalising smells of sizzling street food. We also recommend hopping on a bicycle or in a tuk-tuk and heading out into the stunning countryside to explore ancient ruins shroud amongst bamboo jungle and r vines whilst stopping in at local village communities for a refreshing coconut and bite to eat.
Your hotel, on the banks of the Ping River and right in the center of town, is a proper boutique bolthole, sympathetically designed to reflect the building’s interesting history, dating back to 1889. Think free standing Victorian baths, elegant four poster beds, beautiful teak furnishings and artistic Oriental influences. Your private butler will welcome you home after each excursion, ready with a cool lemongrass face towel and your choice of tipple to help you relax. There’s an inviting pool set amidst the tranquil tropical gardens and therapists at the spa to pamper your body and mind.
Accommodation: 137 Pillars House (3 nights)
Days 9-13: Khao Lak
After all your adventures in the north, fly south for some serious relaxation time on the coast. Located just an hour's drive from the airport on the gorgeous Andaman seaboard, is Khao Lak, one of Thailand's most peaceful and picturesque beach destinations. The hotel we’ve chosen for you is an unashamedly romantic hideaway, hidden within tropical gardens that lead to a secluded white sandy beach. The designers have done an amazing job of blending contemporary Asian style and elegance with the soft tones of nature. It’s a complete oasis, perfect for lounging around beside the swimming pool all day and enjoying the low-lit ambience at the one hotel’s excellent restaurants at night.
For those restless travelers amongst you, the surrounding national parks make for great places to explore by foot or bike and you can also kayak through the mangroves in search of wildlife. Offshore you’ll find one of the top 10 dive sites in the world along with plenty of snorkeling friendly spots to discover an incredible underwater world teeming with exotic fish and corals.
