Serian's Serengeti North Camp is a seasonal camp and is set up from July to mid November when the annual wildebeest migration passes through the area.
Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.
To start planning your vacation to Serian's Serengeti North Camp
Serian's Serengeti North Camp is a seasonal mobile camp operating between July and November in the far north of Tanzania's Serengeti. Set a short distance from the Mara River, Serian is a great camp to catch the dramatic wildebeest river crossings.
Serian's Serengeti North Camp is found on the northern bank of Mara River, in the hard to reach Lamai Wedge, in a hidden valley known as the Wogakuria. This exclusive safari area offers exactly the location you'd want from a mobile seasonal safari camp. You benefit from the epic game viewing of this most dramatic of seasons, and escape the frustrating crowds which can build up in other areas of the ecosystem.
This secluded and peaceful location is rich in year round resident wildlife, but is truly brought to life each year between June and November when the migration passes by in what is one of the world's most dramatic and thrilling spectacles. The Mara River swarms with voracious crocodiles trying to take a passing wildebeest as they plunge off steep banks into swirling muddy water. Up on the banks, among the riverine forest and waiting in the granite kopjes you'll find prides of lions, elusive leopards and cheetah on the plains waiting for their moment.
The six spacious and stylish tents have big comfortable beds and ensuite bathrooms with flushing toilets and hot safari-style bucket showers. There is a small library and shady communal area to relax in during the hot part of the day. The chefs will then amaze you with the outstanding quality of the food they produce from their camp oven, and at the end of a long and eventful day you'll warm yourself by the fire, before heading to your comfy bed, lulled to sleep by the sounds of the African night. If you hit the season right, it is hard to think of a better migration experience than that offered by Serian.
The camp has six authentic Meru tents, including a two-bedroom tented suite which has two ensuite bedrooms linked with a shared lounge area. Each is decorated in classic safari style with large beds and opulent rugs. Swathes of cotton soften the campaign furniture, whilst plush velvet curtains lead to en-suite bathrooms complete with wild flower filled vases, conjuring up idyllic Africa. There are power points in each tent for charging camera batteries.
The camp welcomes children of all ages but doesn't provide any specific activities or facilities for them. Families will really benefit from having their own private vehicle and safari guides throughout their stay, this gives a huge amount of flexibility throughout your safari.
The excellent Serian guide and tracker team will take you out in their open 4x4 safari vehicles. Two pairs of professional eyes, both tracker and guide, ensure that little is missed when out in the bush. Guided game walks offer a different perspective on the bush, children over the age of 12 are able to walk accompanied by their safari guide, in some areas all ages can get out of the vehicle and stretch their legs. Hot air balloon trips can also be booked. At this time of year the focus is on the migration and the river, with access to over 40km of Mara River bank, you're in the best place to see one of nature's great events.
