Tant Kyi Pagoda Adventure
Tant Kyi is a sacred hilltop pagoda best reached by private wooden motorboat. The journey there is a mini-adventure in itself, offering the chance to watch small riverside villages, working fishermen and local boats, as you pass by.
The village of Tant Kyi offers glimpses of traditional Burmese life, flora and traditional architecture and from the base of the giant pagoda, you can either walk up slowly to the top (1-1.5 hours) or travel by local pick-up truck. Walkers benefit from having striking Irrawaddy River views as a backdrop and the temples spires of Bagan in the distance, while the trucks travel on a back road that doesn’t share the same panorama, but does make the journey easier.
At the top, it’s all about watching local pilgrims and photographing the beautiful view, then perhaps strolling on to the adjacent caves to see the Buddha images inside.
