Average time to visit
The best time to visit Burma is during the dry season from November to April. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March, and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.

The Aureum Palace is a luxury hotel located in Bagan and is uniquely situated within the Bagan Archaeological Preservation Zone, therefore providing some of the best views of any hotel in the area.
The Aureum Palace Hotel is set within 27 acres of gardens and has a total of 114 rooms and villas. From the main lobby, you will instantly be struck by the views out over the temples, stupas and pagodas of Bagan. The hotel is fairly spread out, so it is worth considering this if you like privacy or conversely if you don’t like walking too far to your villa. It is in all truth a little larger than most of the hotels in Bagan, and because of that the service standards do slip from time to time when the hotel is full.
There are a few restaurants and bars on offer, and as you can expect, they have maximized the views of the pagodas. Xanadu is an all-day restaurant serving continental and Asian cuisine whilst the Shan specializes in local Burmese and Thai food. There are two bars to enjoy after you have returned from visiting the sites of Bagan.
There are quite a few room categories to choose from. They lead in with the Deluxe Rooms which are all housed in one block and are traditional ‘hotel’ style rooms and look inwards over a central swimming pool. If you want views over the temples, then opt for a villa which is definitely worth the upgrade. For families, they offer the two-bedroom Palm Tree Villa. The Lotus Villas are lovely and right beside the lake overlooking the temples beyond. Behind them are the Jasmine Villas which also have great views, and behind them are the Orchid Villas which we felt were a little dark.
The Deluxe Rooms are located in one block close to the main lobby and all rooms look inward towards a central swimming pool. Jasmine Villas are located close to the lake and feature a private terrace with a small sitting area. The Orchid Villas are set back from the lake but a similar size to the Jasmine Villas with arguably better views. The Lotus Villas have larger living areas with a design reminiscent of the villas themselves, making the rooms somewhat dark in many respects. The Palm Tree Villa features two bedrooms and a private pool with the Island Villa being completely secluded and ideal for honeymooners.
The Aureum Bagan has a spa with six treatment rooms, a large viewing tower, two restaurants and two bars.

Location, Location Location. The minute you arrive at this hotel you want to take a photograph! This luxurious resort has stunning pagoda views from every angle, including some of the villas which is rather special. The main pool is spectacular and there is also a second pool at the back of the hotel, close to the Deluxe Rooms. For pagoda views, opt for the Jasmine Villas which are very stylish and each has a terrace where you can sit and take in the views. The bathroom in each of the villas is enormous! In comparison to other hotels in Bagan it is more resorty and even has its own night club! For sunset, head to the viewing tower where you can enjoy a cocktail and watch the sun go down over the temples.

Aureum Palace really has the wow factor! You cannot beat its location and views of the legendary pagodas of Bagan. The hotel is situated outside the towns of both Old and New Bagan which is probably its only drawback, as it means you need to get a car to take you to any outside restaurants. The interiors definitely give you the sense that you are in Burma, and the hotel has two swimming pools. There's also quite a cool tower you can go up to view the pagodas - although nothing beats climbing an actual pagoda for sunset or sunrise so this isn't necessarily an alternative to doing that!

This resort stands out as having the most impressive entrance of all the properties I have visited in Bagan. You cannot help but be blown away by the views on arrival and appreciate the incredible beauty of the countless temples scattered all around you. The sprawling resort is a visual feast and one that is top of my list to return to. It is hard to tear yourself away from the views and the Jasmine Suites take full advantage of these, with the amazing balcony terrace. They also have a characterful and quirky interior with a delightfully large bathroom/ changing area. There are other room options too and villas for those who really want to splash out.

Located surrounded by the temples of Bagan the pool at The Aureum Palace is just amazing and makes for an incredible first impression as you walk through the lobby and are greeted with views of the infinity pool and temples on the horizon beyond - it really was a WOW moment!
