Lakaz Chamarel is set in the south-west of Mauritius, surrounded by the natural heritage site of the Black River gorges and the Chamarel Mountains, home to a number of endangered species of bird including the green parrot and pink pigeon. High up in the forest, Lakaz Chamarel offers a diverse outlook on Mauritius with the island's main feature being the stunning sandy beaches. But explore further inland and you can enjoy stunning scenic views, an ideal retreat for those wanting tranquillity.
At an altitude of 400 meters on the side of the mountain, Lakaz benefits from stunning views down to the coast and is just 15 minutes away from some of the island's most celebrated beaches: Morne and Baie du Cap.
With just 20 rooms and suites spread across ten hectares of lush tropical gardens and all individually designed, Lakaz Chamarel retains a sense of exclusivity which is not present in some of the larger resorts on the island. The Mauritian owners have over 30 years of experience in directorship roles at well known 5* hotels on the island. They and the 40 members of staff run Lakaz in the manner of a guesthouse whilst providing the levels of service to be expected of a top hotel.
The lodge is decorated in such a way as to represent the diversity of the different cultures on the island, inspiration is taken from the Far East, Africa, India and indigenous Mauritian style. Each of the rooms are spacious and comfortable, with en-suite outdoor showers. Some suites have their own private pools to relax and cool off in, otherwise there is a main pool which guests can enjoy.
Lakaz Chamarel has one main restaurant, 'the dining room' offering a wide range of dishes using local Mauritian products served on the veranda with lovely views to enjoy.
