The climate in New Zealand is incredibly pleasant, with warm and balmy summers and cold crisp winter months with wonderful clear, blue skies. The warmer high-season months of November to April are perfect for outdoor exploration. The colder months of June to August are the best time to ski.
Both North and South Islands are drier on the east coast, rather than on the west, where mountain ranges act as a trap for the moisture-rich winds from the Tasman Sea. It is also worth remembering that it is usually a few degrees cooler on the South Island than the North Island and as New Zealand has a maritime climate, the weather can change rapidly.

A wonderful position perched high on the bluff of Cape Kidnapper's Bay overlooking Hawkes Bay and the emerald dips and curves of their award winning golf course. The Farm at Cape Kidnappers is all about soaring ceilings, stunning decor and eclectic mixes of 'designer rustic' furniture designed to create a beautiful relaxing venue with 360 degree views. Suites are either located close to the main building or on the hillside behind - all with beautiful views to the sea and Hawkes Bay. The Owner's four bedroom cottage is a dream home with 360 degree views from the hot tub over blue seas and immaculate gardens. Possibly one of the most beautifully designed retreats ever. Excellent food, fabulous service from General Manager Euan and his team led by James and a view from their conservatory of the sunset is a must if you can bag a table.

Winning the award for the longest drive (about a 15 minute journey from the gate!), this was never going to be an understated lodge. On the contrary, this is the ultimate luxury lodge; set in an incredible location, amidst 6,000 acres of sprawling, tumbling New Zealand countryside, with an ocean and mountain backdrop, plus fitted with an award wining golf course to top it all off (voted 22nd best golf course in the world in 2014). The setting, style and service are all 5*, so you are thoroughly spoiled from the second you buzz on the front gate. An abundance of outdoor activities are fully complimented by the stunning spa and gym, plus wine cellar and excellent restaurant with a gorgeous terrace. The suites are all effortlessly chic and for those wanting the ultimate in vacation luxury, the Owners Cottage is pretty spectacular and hard to beat.

Having embarked on their 15 minute winding drive, you knew you were in for a treat. As you approach the cape, the views up the coast are stunning. The place had a very fresh feel about it and the staff are incredibly lively and keen to get to know you. The villas had an abundance of natural light, beams of light shone directly into the bathrooms and bedrooms; the pool is a great sun trap too. The sunset was unmatchable, and their terrace is an excellent place to dine, with views out over the golf course and out into the Pacific Ocean. There are many options for the whole family, including enjoying their pool and spa, long walks to the gannet colony and Kiwi Sanctuary and days golfing, not to forget clay pigeon shooting. Although I stayed in their ridge suites, there hilltop suites are equally luxurious and have a remote feel to them, and have the added bonus of being close to the Spa. I'm sadly not a golfer however this is the place to go!
