Botswana has some of the best wildlife areas on the continent. The Okavango Delta, in the north of the country supports a huge diversity of game. In contrast to this lush habitat is the Kalahari Desert in central Botswana, a stunning, semi-arid landscape complete with desert adapted species including the magnificent Kalahari black maned lion.

With the beautiful Okavango Delta and the contrasting Kalahari Desert both playing a part in its rich tapestry, Botswana is home to some of the best wildlife in Africa. Botswana has the lowest population density in Africa and is highlighted as a stable democracy and political success since independence from Britain. Its landscape is predominately flat, yet varied in nature. The Okavango Delta is the world’s largest inland delta, formed by the Okavango river, which, contrary to the laws of nature, flows inland from Angola and never reaches the sea. Its lushness supports a huge diversity of game, contributing to Botswana’s reputation as an ideal and unique safari destination. The vast Kalahari Desert is a semi-arid landscape supporting specially adapted wildlife including large herds of gemsbok, eland, springbok and the predators that follow them. It surrounds the fascinating Makgadikgadi Pans which, when flooded, are a sanctuary for many bird species and enormous herds of migratory zebra. Scott Dunn’s highlights for Botswana:
