Set in the depths of the Okavango Delta, Macatoo Camp offers simple but comfortable tented rooms and exhilarating rides into the bush accompanied by your expert guide from African Horseback Safaris to get up close to the game.
Home to a kaleidoscope of wildlife, the Okavango Delta is an intriguing phenomena, with ever changing landscapes created by the seasonal flood waters flowing through from Angola.
African Horseback Safari's camp, Macatoo, stands proudly on a palm fringed island, surrounded by endless grassy plains, punctuated with water meadows and seasonal lagoons. Bursting with life, the bush continuously shifts and transforms as you ride from island to island. The movement of the game and the dramatic seasonal changes ensure no two safaris are ever the same.
The classic Hemmingway-style tented camp provides you with all your creature comforts whilst allowing you to experience the wild beauty of the African bush. All six tents have an en-suite shower and loo and are secluded with a spacious verandah and armchairs overlooking the flood plain, dotted with palm trees. The central area has a mess tent with a bar and plenty of places to relax, an for those who wish to cool off after a day in the saddle, there is a small swimming pool tucked away in the trees.
For those who do not ride, or who simply have a taste for variety, vehicles are provided for day and night game drives and canoes can be taken down the river to view the game from a different perspective.
The camp has eight spacious, luxury, en-suite tents which are raised on wooden decks to offer views of the floodplains where elephant, zebra, buck and bird life can be observed. All the tents have private verandas to make your views even more special.
There are no specific child friendly facilities available at the camp and the minimum riding age is 12 years. The camp has recently introduced a family room to the camp which consists of two interconnecting tents which is ideal for larger groups.
Macatoo cannot accept beginners for safety reasons, only proficient riders. Non-riding partners are welcome and can be taken out on game drives. Not recommended for people with disabilities.
The activities included within your trip are game drives - day and night -, horse back safaris and mokoro trips. For riders, you will spend 4-6 hours a day in the saddle exploring the area. You need to be a competent rider and feel at ease in the saddle. For non riders, you can enjoy the game drives, fishing and mokoro trips.
There is also a swimming pool based at the camps which is an ideal way to cool down in the African sun.
