Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – wet and dry – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Indonesia at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.

Amanwana truly offers a unique experience from your arrival, where you watch as the resort emerges from the merged treeline from the deck of the private speed boat. To taking a stroll to your tent to unpack under the watchful eye of the resident macaques, that use you canopy as their own. Spend your days relaxing on the private beach or enjoy the variety of experiences on offer from trekking to diving. Unwind with a cocktail at the beach side restaurant at sunset and watch the family of deer emerge from the jungle and graze around the patio.

In the most peaceful and remote setting imaginable, Amanwana is a total getaway and escape. It's location is remarkable, as the only hotel on the island, it is as private as you will find anywhere. The rest of the island consists of jungle and just a few villages with a population of about 1000 across 6 villages. The water is as clear as I have ever seen and just so inviting. You only have to push off from the beach to see hundreds of beautiful vibrant fish and coral. It is so relaxed that you can hop on a kayak paddle board, hobie cat or just float around with your snorkel, all at your own leisure. Dining is a 24 hours affair, so whenever you desire you can wonder down the beach to the restaurant to try their daily selection of fresh fish, salad, ice cream or whatever other delicacies are on the menu. The luxury tents are the perfect understated accompaniment to this serene and tranquil environment.

Arriving at Amanwana was an experience in itself, landing on the waters of the glassy turquoise lagoon by floatplane! From the moment we walked up the jetty past the magical waterfall (turned on and off by a cunningly hidden shell) we were utterly spoiled by the delightful staff and blown away by the stunning setting. Aside from 7 tiny fishing villages dotted around the coast, Amanwana is the only address on Moyo. Situated on a curve of golden sand on this tiny jungle island, Amanwana is a luxury, tented camp, perfect for a secluded getaway. Each tent is air-conditioned and boasts crisp white linen, billowing mosquito nets and a private bathroom with a hot water shower.
Activities at Amanwana range from snorkeling (both day and night on the house reef) diving, fishing, walks to the island waterfall, boat trips and even a cinema under the stars - to name but a few. After a delicious candle-lit barbeque on the beach, we settled down for a movie under the night sky. This really is a place to venture off the beaten track in style! Although this is an ideal spot for honeymooners, Amanwana are equally as welcoming to families, with plenty of activities to amuse the children whilst you slink off to the Jungle Cove Spa for a massage overlooking the beach…
Open Air Cinema
Enjoy a unique cinema experience, under a canopy of stars and wild fig and banyan trees, with the gentle sounds of the Flores sea in the background. Pick a movie or documentary from the extensive list of titles and settle back to enjoy a private viewing.
A classic Amanwana experience on board a traditional wooden outrigger, Aman XIV. Order some drinks and canapés and absorb the sights and sounds of the peaceful jungle as the sun sets on another magical day on Moyo island.
Located in the center of the island, deep in the tropical forest, the spring fed water of the pools provides a refreshing swim to escape the heat of the day. Barry’s Falls are named after Barry Lees, who discovered Amanwana bay.
