Nubian Museum

Aswan, Egypt

The indigenous people of Upper (southern) Egypt and the north of Sudan are known as Nubians, and the Nubian Museum shows off the culture, history and art from ancient times until the present day. The building housing the museum is of local architecture.

When the High Dam at Aswan was built during the 1960's and Lake Nasser was created, treasures of Ancient Egypt and Ancient Nubia had to be rescued from the rising waters. The Nubian Museum was built to house the smaller artifacts and has been built to evoke a Nubian village, surrounded by 43,000 square meters of landscaped garden.
