Full day out from Siem Reap: Across ancient reservoirs (long since devoid of water), through pretty villages and rice paddies, visit the fine riverbed carvings of Kbal Spean, some 50km from Siem Reap. After trekking down the hill, visit ACCB (Angkor Center for Conservation of Biodiversity – guided tours daily at 13:00 except Sundays) to learn of wildlife in this area including birds, reptiles, and mammals before a visit to Banteay Srei temple [AD967], a small pink sandstone temple with the most exquisite, deep and complex carvings on the way back.
