The best time to visit Northern Vietnam is from February to April and September to November avoiding the heat and the rain. The official peak season in Vietnam is from September to April as these months see the least rain. December to February are the cooler months. May to September is the rainy season with the most rain failing in July and August and typhoons are possible.
Itinerary
Hanoi
Your holiday begins with two blissful nights in Vietnam’s characterful capital. Stay in a beautiful colonial hotel located right in the heart of the city with attractions such as the famous Hanoi Opera House and Hoan Kiem lake at your fingertips. We recommend spending a day fully exploring the winding lanes and intriguing shops of this area, but we have also arranged a guided tour of key historic locations such as Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum and the Temple of Literature where university students flock to pray and make offerings around the time of their exams. In your own time, you can venture into the tangle of narrow streets that make up the Old Quarter, finding local eateries and fascinating shops as you go. Make sure to try a typical Hanoian breakfast of egg coffee at one of the ramshackle coffee houses.
If you are interested in the local culture and enjoy great performance, join a trip to Da Phuc Village for "The Quintessence of Tonkin" show, a spectacular performance with a great blend of the cultural highlights of northern Vietnam in an innovative way.
Halong Bay
Take a two hour drive from Hanoi to the idyllic Lan Ha Bay that is located in the Halong Bay area. Here you can board the Ginger, a cruise ship that blends contemporary accents with Indochine style, for a luxurious one night stay on the water. Spend the day relaxing on the sun deck as you take in the mesmerising sights or enjoy a well-deserved spa treatment before docking at the lush Cat Ba Island where you can bike around to explore a local village. Return to the ship for an immersive evening cooking class with the boat’s chef. As dusk falls, sip a drink on the top deck as you watch the stars come out or join the crew for some evening squid fishing fun.
Engage in a Tai Chi session on the sun deck early the next morning to start your day off right. Then take a morning hike to Frog Lake before adjourning back to the boat for a sumptuous breakfast before you depart for the airport to return home.
