Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.
Insider's View
To start planning your holiday to Hotel Jerome Ski
Description
Steeped in history and character, the luxury, Hotel Jerome has been welcoming guests since 1889 to the heart of Aspen, and offers a glance back to the days of the 'Wild West' silver boom.
Walk into the Hotel Jerome and you'll be warmly greeted in true Colorado style by bellmen in cowboy hats and boots! Many original features remain, from the original front desk to the gold ceilings in the Library bar and J-bar. Walls are plastered with framed pages from old newspapers, offering a fascinating insight into life in Aspen in the early 1900s, and makes for entertaining reading on the way to your room! You'll be in good company - guests who have stayed at the hotel include John Wayne and Gary Cooper, and Hunter S Thompson was a regular at the J-Bar.
The Jerome's rooms and suites have all been recently renovated but are still uniquely decorated incorporating the grand Western style of the 1900s with modern quirks.
Head to J-Bar in the evening for a lively and authentic saloon experience, or for a more refined atmosphere, relax in a cosy armchair in the Living room and enjoy a pre-prohibition cocktail with some tapas or a light bite. The newest restaurant is the Prospect which offers hearty contemporary dishes using the mining era as a strong influence in its food.
After skiing, soothe tired muscles in the hotel's own outdoor heated pool and hot tub and the new Auberge spa. The new hotel spa has a wide selection of treatments and uses some great products local to the area. Alternatively guests have access to The Aspen Club & Spa, a private sports club and rejuvenating spa, with 34 treatment rooms offering a variety of massages and treatments.
Whilst there are no specific childcare facilities, the Jerome is very family friendly. And we thoroughly recommend the hotel for couples or older families looking for Rocky Mountain authenticity.
Accommodation
The hotel features 93 guest rooms. Those on the Historical side of the hotel offer mountain and town views. The North Wing offers residential views and benefit from a quieter position. All rooms and suites offer a soulful, Western authenticity with historically inspired furnishings, updated bathrooms and modern-day luxuries. Thoughtful, custom touches, like the honour mini bar designed as a leather campaign chest and the burnished-leather bed frames, are the standard in every room. Custom wall coverings, extensive millwork, and bespoke furniture, such as leather writing tables, enhance the grandeur of the hotel’s already spacious guest rooms. Contemporary artwork commissioned for the hotel by regional artists hang alongside archival pieces reproduced from Aspen Historical Society collections.
Childcare
The hotel is child-friendly but there are no specific children's facilities available at Jerome.
Services
Twice daily housekeeping service; personal concierge service; complimentary local transportation;small outdoor heated pool and two Jacuzzis; full service spa; complimentary wireless internet access; privileges at the Aspen Club & Spa.
Facilities
From Aspen’s favourite watering hole, the J-Bar, to the acclaimed culinary offerings by the Restaurant, Hollywood starlets, guests and locals alike have flocked to Hotel Jerome to satiate their appetites for more than 100 years.
Newest addition Prospect, an upscale bistro serving traditionally inspired, but modern cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, there are some great hearty dishes which are perfect after a day on the slopes. Complimenting the cuisine is a rich and varied wine program. Prospect is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also benefits from a great terrace from which to enjoy a few rays.
The J-Bar is the iconic spot in town to grab a drink, it is a very social place to enjoy an après drink but also fairly chilled.
Activities
Resort activities include skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, dog sledding, and powder tours – off piste powder guiding and snowmobiling. As well as all the winter sports there is lots to see in the way of Art galleries and museums. We would recommend a hot air balloon ride over the mountains. There is a brilliant children's centre in Snowmass, the Treehouse, which caters for children aged 12 months and upwards.

Welcome to the Wild, Wild West. The Jerome is the oldest and most traditional hotel in Aspen and if youre looking to stay somewhere full of character then look no further. The bellboys meet you outside the front door wearing cowboy hats and the hotels J-Bar still has the original bar from the 1900s. This is a great place to go for aprs ski with a selection of wines, beers and cocktails.

Being the oldest and most historic hotel in Aspen this really was one of the highlights of my visit to Aspen. Although not ski in and out, you are still in a central location to access the town, restaurants and shops. Don't worry about getting to the slopes though, as each morning you will be greeted by a Stetson toting cowboy to assist. If you like the Wild West then this is the hotel for you with a glamorous prohibition-style you really are teleported back in time.

As soon as you walk through the saloon doors at this hotel, you feel like you are in the heart of the wild west. This is such an amazing hotel, with so much character, all of the doormen have cowboy hats on which creates such a nice atmosphere at the hotel. The Jerome was the first hotel in Aspen and still holds all of its history within its walls even after recently going through a complete renovation.
