Thai Art Workshop
Learn traditional Thai lacquering and gilding from an artist who's restored temples including Wat Pho, creating your own wooden plaque with gold leaf and lacquer at Baan Thongjaya.
Area
Northern Thailand
Type

Duration
Full Day
Choose morning or afternoon for your workshop at Baan Thongjaya – a historical yellow house that serves as studio, café, and restaurant. Your guide collects you by private vehicle and delivers you to Mr. Luengvilai, a Fine Arts graduate trained in temple restoration, including Wat Pho.
Today he's teaching you traditional Thai lacquering and gilding – techniques considered high art here, part of Thailand's heritage. Lacquer gives Buddha images their characteristic shine; gilding brings them to life. You'll work on a small wooden plaque, learning how to layer lacquer and apply gold leaf. He'll show you traditional Thai water patterns, then encourage you to create something of your own.
His stories matter as much as the techniques. He'll share why this craft matters, which temples he's restored, how the work connects to Thai cultural heritage. By the end, you'll have a genuine piece – not a souvenir, but something you've actually made with guidance from someone who understands this art from the inside. You'll also leave with a sustainable tote bag, a practical reminder of the afternoon.
Your vehicle returns you to your hotel as evening arrives.
