The Winelands are a wonderful year-round destination and enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, somewhat like the South of France, which is what makes the area perfect for grape-growing. Summer in Franschhoek is the reverse of the Northern hemisphere. The best season visit is September to March when it is hot, sunny and dry. From April to August it cools down with some rain.

We loved Auberge Clermont when we dropped in for a brief visit like a small, intimate little farmstead, the property is surrounded by swathes of white roses, their scent permeating the entire building. Auberge is small and intimate, with just six rooms, some surrounding a courtyard with a beautiful old oak tree in the middle. There is a small lounge area but outside is the place to be with incredible views over the mountains and surrounding vineyards. The rooms are quaint and intimate, very simple farmhouse style, and unfussy with twin or double beds. From here explore the winelands or take a wander through Franschhoek with its myriad shops and restaurants it is a five minute drive away. You get the feel that guests are very well looked after here the manageress is delightful, and insisted we try the handmade chocolates which are given to every guest and of course we were delighted to!

I loved the private villa at Auberge Clermont, this is real Franschhoek: a pretty little cottage in the Cape Dutch architectural style, surrounded by a working wine farm and with spectacular views of the Franschhoek mountains. Beat that!! It sleeps six and works on a self-catered or bed and breakfast basis. There is nothing fancy about the villa but it is perfect for those after a really authentic experience, that is more relaxed than the hustle of the town centre but still only just over 1 km walk to the high street. The villa is also exceptional value for the experience it offers.

Auberge Clermont's charm lies in its homely atmosphere. With big roaring fires in the evening and comfortable sofas to sink yourself into, it's hard not to fall in love with Auberge Clermont.

There is a really great, chilled-out vibe and it's not at all stuffy or pretentious. The rooms are nicely decorated and definitely not trying to be anything too fancy. There is a very romantic French feel to them.

You can take walks around the farm in which the hotel is situated or venture over to the tennis courts for a couple of hours. The pace is slow and easy and the emphasis is to really relax. Any tours or activities that you might be interested in doing can be easily arranged through the great staff on reception.
