Laos enjoys a warm, tropical climate year-round. The cooler, drier months of the year are from November to March; however, temperatures rarely drop below 22°C during the day. Humidity is highest between May and September, when sunbursts follow tropical downpours and temperatures can climb to 35°C. However, the average year-round temperature is a pleasant 25°C.

Your holiday starts in the heart of Luang Prabang, an enchanting town where peaceful streets meet French-style buildings that jostle for space with traditional wooden houses and glittering temples. Start your trip off by exploring the gold mosaicked halls of the Royal Palace with a guide. Peep into the shadowy Wat Xieng Thong and learn how to prepare offerings for an alms giving ceremony, or Tak Bat, a longstanding tradition in Laos Buddhist culture and a sacred ceremony for the locals and the monks. The tour can finish with either a short climb to the top of Mount Phousi to watch the sun set, or you may choose to join monks in their temple to listen to the haunting sound of their evening chanting. In the evening we recommend strolling down the main street to shop at the incredible night market and discover some local flavours on the street food street next to Indigo Café.
Rise early the next day to witness the silent morning ritual of Tak Bat as hundreds of saffron-clad monks leave their respective temples to partake in the daily alms giving ceremony. After the procession ends, journey on to a nearby local market where all sorts of fascinating local produce and seafood will be on display. We then invite you to enjoy a relaxing gourmet breakfast picnic at the nearby Kuang Si waterfall where the water is coloured an incredible sky-blue from the mineral content of the rocks. Here you may visit the nearby sun bear sanctuary, swim in the cool water or hike to the top of the falls for a better view. Your day will also include a hands-on class at Tamarind Cooking School where you can learn to make a variety of scrumptious Lao dishes from a local instructor to re-create at home.
For your second last day, see Luang Prabang from a local’s perspective with a river cruise on the Mekong. With your guide, head upstream on a private longtail boat, stopping at the mysterious Pak Ou caves, filled with over 4000 Buddha icons. A short visit to the nearby Ban Muang Keo village will allow you to observe the production of coloured woven fabric and indulge in some Laotian whisky. Slowly drift back to Luang Prabang as the sun sets on another fun-filled day.
