Highlights
Combines the comfort and luxury of a city hotel with Japanese style and design
A peaceful haven in central Tokyo, in walking distance from Ginza, the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station
A perfect option for those wanting to avoid branded city hotels in favour of something more unique
The views are arguably a little limited, but the ambience and atmosphere more than makes up for this
Located in Otemachi just north of Ginza, Hoshinoya Fuji is a hotel like no other in Tokyo; its simple and stylish design draws inspiration from a traditional ryokan and its nod to authenticity is apparent as soon as you enter with beautiful wooden screens and polite Japanese staff that come to greet you personally.
Each floor is covered in authentic tatami mats that lead you to the beautiful rooms. Every floor has been designed to feel just like an independent ryokan, with paper screens and a separate Ochanoma lounge on each floor for guests to enjoy at leisure. Filled with stylish sofas, books and refreshments, this is a fantastic place unwind and top up on your Japan knowledge over a cup of tea.
The rooms, much like the rest of the hotel, are very sleek and high quality with thick comfortable mattresses (the beds are slightly low to replicate a futon), contemporary bathrooms with huge bathtubs and the all important space where breakfast is served. Much like a traditional ryokan, traditional but elaborate Japanese food is served in room and not in a restaurant. Fortunately for some, western options are also available and we loved our fresh coffee, fluffy croissant and omlet.
Hoshinoya Tokyo is not for everyone but for those wanting a luxurious and peaceful retreat in the city this is likely to be perfect.
