Borobudur

Majestic in its size, magical in its serenity, powerful in its stoical longevity, Borobudur defies all superlatives to inhabit its own otherworldly magnificence. This 9th century temple, made up of a series of carved platforms rising up to a central stupa, is an important pilgrimage site, and one of the finest archaeological sites of Asia, alongside Bagan in Myanmar and Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

Borobudur

Wander through hundreds of statues of the Buddha in the early morning mists, as the damp air clings to the swaying palms, and the sound of the villagers starting their day drifts up and over the stupas from the paddy fields below.
