The climate of Madhya Pradesh can be labelled tropical and monsoonal. Seasonal variations occur mainly in the form of three distinct seasons - summer, winter and monsoon.

Summer runs from April until June with temperatures reaching over 40°C during the day, while early mornings and evenings are pleasant, around 18-24°C. Rainfall is heavy in the monsoon season which lasts from mid-June until September. Winters are pleasant and the best time to travel is from October to March when game viewing in the national parks is at its best.

Please note the national parks in this region are closed during the monsoon season, from July until October.

Insider's View

Ask to go on a village walk with one of the naturalists if you have a spare few hours. You will get a really wonderful understanding of the surrounding area and maybe spot some rare birds.

Enjoy a sundowner on the sociable open air deck after your safari to share tales of your wildlife sightings.

When not out on game drives, I recommend you visit the library where you can see amazing photographs taken by guests and understand fascinating information on the resident tiger territories

To start planning your holiday to Samode Safari Lodge

Samode Safari Lodge is a 12 cottage hotel on the edge of Bandhavgarh National Park. The cottages take inspiration from the architecture of the local villages and the lodge offers daily game drives with specially adapted vehicles and knowledgeable guides.

Samode Safari Lodge is a charming, luxurious option for those wanting to explore the incredible wildlife of Bandhavgarh National Park. The lodge is the sister property of Samode Haveli and Samode Palace in Jaipur and has just twelve private villas.

Inspired by the local architecture, the villas are most elegant with a spacious lounge, bedroom, en-suite bathroom and a unique open-air bath court. They also have private verandas with striking views of the wilderness landscape.

Guests can enjoy dining at the main restaurant, at a table set out in the bush, poolside meals or barbecues by the camp fire. There is a different menu each day, lighter continental fare is served during the day, followed by an Indian meal each evening.

The park’s tigers are best seen while on a jeep safari, and Bhandavgarh has the highest population density of tigers so if you're going to see them anywhere it will be here! The lodge has expert naturalists to guide and teach you about the wildlife. The lodge also organises sightseeing tours to ancient temples and nearby villages as well as having a library, recreation room, art gallery and a swimming pool.

This safari lodge is incredibly comfortable and has all the amenities and facilities you could wish for. The rooms have all mod-cons to include tea/coffee making facilities, air con, Ipod docking station, TV, heating so that you will be completely comfortable while visiting Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. There is also a stunning spa pavilion with a couple of treatments that have double doors that open up so guests can take a private massage yet be at one with nature. Its the perfect blend of luxury yet being in a remote spot with views over the surrounding remote Indian bushland.

Samode Safari Lodge is a peaceful and comfortable lodge that has a colonial feel in the main building. There's a cosy lounge decorated with wildlife pictures and two wood burning fireplaces for the cooler evening. The lounge opens onto a large wooden open air deck with great views out over the extensive lodge grounds and the swimming pool in the distance. So you have lots of choice of places to relax and the lodge varies the dining location too. The thalis are excellent, and there is a choice of Indian and continental cuisine. It is also a Relais & Chateaux property so the service and food is of the highest standard.

The individual cottages are widely spaced to maximise privacy in the extensive grounds, and the feel of the interiors is more tribal, with brightly coloured murals. The cottages are extremely spacious with a bedroom with a modern en-suite bath, a lounge, a dressing area, an open-air bathroom and a private veranda with a view. So there is ample room for extra beds for children.

The naturalists have all been well trained and as the lodge is a mere 10-minutes from the gate of zone 2 you will probably find yours jeep will be the first in the national park at 6am for the morning game drive. This maximises your chances of spotting wildlife, especially the Bengal Tiger which patrols its territory in the early morning.

This is a charming lodge with a wonderfully colonial feel about it. The property is spread out over many acres with 12 cottages inspired from the outside by the traditional village design. Once you enter your private cottage however, you will be greeted by all the modern amenities you could possibly wish for and even a beautiful outside bathroom, to compliment your inside bathroom! Your dinner each night will be served in a different unique location and the staff will go to extraordinary lengths to make sure your stay feels personalised.

I think the best thing about this lodge is its location. It is the closest to the airport out of all the lodges at Bhandavgarh yet it is also the only one in its area near Zone 2. Most of the other lodges are situated near Zone 1 and being the other side of the Park gives you a wonderful feeling of exclusivity.
