From May to December it's the 'green season' when it rains more than the rest of the year, it can sometimes rain for 3 days in a row. However, this is rainforest and walking in the rain doesn't ruin the experience. October is the wettest month, the creeks rise and roads can be impassable. There are few people staying at Lapa Rios, though, so it’s much more intimate. January to April are the drier months, when it’s idyllic here. The busiest time of year is the second half of December, when you need to book well in advance.

Itinerary

Fly to San Jose
Day 1-3

Central Valley, Costa Rica

The ultimate place to start your epic journey, a stones throw from San Jose, submerge in the dense rainforest of Central Valley, with national parks bursting with wildlife and plantation covered rolling hills. El Silencio Lodge & Spa is an exclusive eco-friendly hideaway set in a 500 acre private reserve surrounded by tropical cloud forest and waterfalls. Relax in the sheer opulence of your cottage-style suite, with a private terrace located right on the bubbling torrent which streaks through the property offering privacy in your outdoor jacuzzi.

Explore the surrounding nature trails accompanied by your private eco-concierge, taking you to all the best hidden treasures away from the main tourist trail.  An abundance of excursion can be enjoyed; coffee tasting, horse riding, hiking, river rafting, bird watching, tours to nearby Juan Castro Blanco National Park, Medicine Forest Walk, night hiking, chocolate and coffee tours, rappelling, canopy zip-lining, and visits to the Arenal and Poas volcanoes. There is definitely something to capture your heart in this diverse ecosystem.

Day 3-6

Arenal, Costa Rica

Leap from the cloud mountains to the Arenal Volcano Nation Park.  You will be awestruck by the unique style and location of the stunning luxury tents you will find at Nayara, luxurious yet eco-friendly base, with each tent blending into the surrounding nature has its own outdoor shower and plunge pool filled from the hot springs.  Immerse yourself in this rainforest experience, home to a great variety of birds and wildlife and an incredible sloth sanctuary.

A plethora of activities await you here.  Soar through the rainforest canopy on this thrilling zip wiring adventure in the Arenal reserve. Experience the sights and sounds of the rainforest from a bird’s-eye view, admiring the wildlife and spectacular scenery from above.

Gently paddle around Arenal Lake and soak in the spectacular views of the volcano, explore the shoreline and observe a variety of birds including herons, kingfishers and flycatchers or spend a full day hiking through the lush Arenal area, visiting invigorating waterfalls, passing along hanging bridges high above the canopy and hiking up the majestic Arenal Volcano.

Accommodation: Nayara Tented Camp ( 3 nights )
Day 6-10

Southern Osa, Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

A privileged beach and rainforest location you will submerge into exclusivity at Lapa Rios, an award-winning jungle eco-lodge with eco-chic bungalows with fantastic service to match. All set in 1,000 acres of tropical rainforest reserve on the wildlife rich Osa Peninsula overlooking the pristine point where the Golfo Dulce meets the Pacific Ocean in Costa Rica.

Many excursions within the reserve are included during your stay lead by a team of expert naturalist guides. Don your binoculars and join bird watching tours, night walks and nature hikes where you’ll encounter miles of private, uncrowded trails in prime rainforest home to wild waterfalls and pristine beaches. Costa Rica has the longest humpback whale watching season in the world (August-October) so catching a glimpse of these magnificent marine mammals is more than likely and dolphins are regular visitors to the bay.  Fly into the teeming rainforest of Corcovado National Park, one of the world's most biologically intense places, for an incredible wildlife experience, looking for tapirs, jaguars, ocelots, brilliantly coloured birds and much else besides.
