Manitoba has a typically dry climate with very distinct seasons that have sharp temperature changes. During the winter months, temperatures can be as low as -40 degrees celsius, and in the summer months, temperatures of 38 degrees celsius are not uncommon. The snow is deeper than 1cm for over 130 days of the year, so the region is known for its long winter and snowy conditions. Despite the coldness, skies are often completely clear and due to very low levels of pollution, stargazing and northern lights viewing are excellent nighttime activities.

Experience the ultimate polar bear adventure and encounter the largest bear on Earth just south of the Arctic Circle, in Manitoba, Canada. This arctic adventure offers a unique experience; stay in a cosy remote wilderness lodge situated on the Hudson Bay, deep in the natural habitat of the Great Ice Bear.

  1. Days 1-2: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Arrive into Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba where you will spend the night with your fellow passengers and meet your adventure specialist. You will spend the evening relaxing and getting to know your group before you travel to Churchill the following day.

Accommodation: The Grand Winnipeg Airport Hotel (1 night)

  2. Days 2-6: Arctic Canada, Canada

Journey further north, you will arrive to Churchill by plane where expedition guides will meet you to transfer further into the arctic tundra and to your wilderness lodge. Your next flight will take you over the Hudson Bay and Churchill River, keep an eye out for arctic wildlife, including caribou, moose, seals, wolves and of course the “Great Ice Bears”.
On arrival at the lodge you will get settled into your room, this is the most exclusive lodge that offers truly wild encounters of the polar bear. Later in the day stretch your legs with a coastline hike, learn about the Hudson Bay wildlife and should weather conditions favour, marvel as the night skies dance with the Aurora Borealis. Your remote lodge also offers an Aurora viewing tower meaning you can observe the northern lights from the comfort of inside.
Over the next few days you will focus on nature trekking out into the snowy wilds of the tundra to view and photograph the “Great Ice Bear”. All treks are guided and will allow you the perfect opportunity to view and photograph the polar bear in its natural habitat within a safe distance and without imposing on the wildlife and surroundings.

Transfer by plane back to Churchill where you will experience excursions out on the tundra in the tundra-buggy for more polar bear viewing. You will also have a free afternoon which offers the perfect opportunity to add on dog-sledging or a heli-tour experience; see the spectacular landscape from an aerial view or gear up with man's best friend and sledge your way through the snow.

Hearty meals will be provided at the lodge and your hotels throughout your stay, mealtimes provide the perfect opportunity to share the day’s highlights and learn more about the arctic landscape and wildlife from expert guides.

Accommodation: Dymond Lake Lodge (4 nights)
