Temperatures in Bahia vary little from month to month and it's warm all year round, with average highs hovering around 30°C. April to July is the wettest season (though it can rain at any time) and June to September bring slightly cooler evenings. Salvador goes mad during Carnival (February or March depending on the year) - more than 2 million party-goers hit the streets for a colourful riot of dancing and drinking - expect prices to hike and availability to fall dramatically.
To start planning your holiday to Uxua Casa Hotel
Uxua Casa Hotel & Spa is a stunning, individual boutique hotel by fashion label Diesel’s former creative director Wilbert Das offering gorgeous 1,2 and 3 bedroom private houses in the cliff top fishing village of Trancoso on Brazil’s idyllic Bahian coast.
Trancoso is a picturesque, hilltop fishing village on Brazil’s verdant Bahian coast. Here Uxua offers nine unique and individually styled houses designed by Wilbert Das in collaboration with local Bahian artisans and set in tropical gardens. The hotel is complemented by a spa and the nearby Uxua beach lounge. The Quadrado is a grassy village green overlooking the sea and surrounded by colourful fishermen's houses.
The hotel's houses are each totally unique in design and décor. These include historic one to three bedroom Quadrado-facing houses, an extravagant tree house constructed entirely from recycled wood, two poolside studios, one with drafting tables for visiting artists or designers, and one or two bedroom fisherman-style bungalows secreted among mature trees, coconut palms, and flowering plants. Some of the houses have their own private gardens, plunge pools, Jacuzzis and terraces, and all but one have a full equipped kitchen or kitchenette. All have private bathrooms with locally crafted fixtures, luxurious king size beds, and locally sourced furnishings.
Uxua Casa Hotel & Spa has a real emphasis on relaxation. Unwind in the spa, which has indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, before taking a relaxing dip in the Jacuzzi. Yoga and Pilates classes are held in the spa and there are a variety of massages and acupuncture treatments to choose from. Guests can take a refreshing swim in the garden pool, which is lined with aventurine, a shimmering green stone famous for its healing properties. There is an open-air gym, beach-volley area and a platform for capoeira training for more active guests. Overlooking the pool, the open-air restaurant and bar serves delicious Bahian cuisine and homemade delicacies.
Uxua Casa Hotel & Spa has 10 individual houses each with between one and three bedrooms. The houses are all uniquely designed, blending maximum comfort with rustic design cleverly using recycled, vintage and local materials. All are equipped with the latest technology including flat screen television, cd/dvd player, WiFi access and air conditioning. All have indoor/outdoor living rooms and with the exception of Casa do Arvore all have kitchens or kitchenettes.
Children are welcome at Uxua and baby sitters can be provided upon request. Cots, extra beds and baby monitors can also be provided if needed.

Although these restored fishermen's cottages are rustic Bahia chic, don't be fooled into thinking that the quality is sub-par. As you might imagine in a property owned by a leading fashion designer, the attention to detail and quality are of the highest order. I loved the beach bar which is in the form of an upturned Indian canoe, and the fact that there is a choice between rooms right on the quadrado (main square) or more private, depending on your preference.
Every summer, Brazil's fashion and finance sets steal away to Trancoso, a colonial village on the Bahían coast. Those who don't already have their own fabulous digs in the area more than make do at Uxua Casa Hotel, built by Dutchman Wilbert Das, the former creative director of fashion label Diesel. With just nine guest quarters scattered around a lantern-lit garden, this posada tucked discreetly off the main square makes high style of rusticity. Casitas have thatched roofs, cement floors, king-size beds with fine linens, and a catalog's worth of vintage furniture and Bahían folk art. Sumptuous bathrooms incorporate reclaimed tree trunks. At the beach, a five-minute stroll away, the hotel runs a lively bar and lounge, where locally crafted daybeds front a gorgeous strand. Staff may be snooty or sweet, depending on who's on duty, but with luck you'll run into barman Morgan Biagio, who makes a mean passion fruit caipirinha. One tip: Don't miss the breakfast banquet, which should keep you satiated well past lunch.
Reminiscent of St Tropez in the 1950s, the tiny but happening Bahia fishing village of Trancoso is now home to Uxua, a collection of houses (plus spa, gym and restaurant) which have been converted and redesigned by trendsetter Wilbert Das, creative director of fashion label Diesel. By employing local craftsmen, who used traditional building methods and materials, he has created a hotel that is both authentic and chic. Each of the nine houses sleeps between two and six people, and can be taken as one booking or individually. Some feature Brazilian antiques, others bespoke handmade furnishings, and all are decorated with vibrant pieces of Bahian art. The Bulgari team have already been spotted posing by the green quartz-stone pool and hanging out at the chill-out bar, built into a grounded fishing boat on the beach, a five-minute walk away.
