Itinerary

Fly to Paro
Day 1-2

Thimphu

After you have descended over the Himalayas and landed in Paro’s international airport, you will be met by your guide and driver before being whisked away to Bhutan’s capital city of Thimphu. The rest of the day is at your leisure to explore the highlights of the city and surrounds with your knowledgeable guide or to relax at your hotel. Some popular sights to see include the National Textile Museum and the Tashichho Dzong. There may also be time to enjoy some short hikes into the surrounding valley or to visit Bhutan’s mythical national animal at the Motithang Takin Preserve. At the end of your first day in this beguiling kingdom enjoy one night in an intimate modern retreat a short distance from the cities centre.

Accommodation: Zhiwa Ling Ascent ( 1 night )
Day 2-4

Punakha

Today you will be whisked away over the mountain passes to the valley of Punakha. Approximately three hours, the drive takes you over the beautiful Dochula Pass where you can take in the undulating Himalayas that span into the distance and enjoy the billowing prayer flags around you. The next two nights will be spent in a serenely positioned boutique property surrounded by pine forest in the Punakha Valley. That afternoon and the following day explore this beautiful area by foot, road or raft. Visit the iconic Punakha Dzong, the ‘fertility enhancing’ Chimi Lhakhang monastery, stroll along scenic hiking trails or in the summer set off white water-rafting down the Po Chhu River past the verdant fields and traditional houses. If a visit overlaps the weekend, then a visit to the weekend market is a further insight into the countries culture and foodie favourites.

Accommodation: Dhensa Punakha ( 2 nights )
Day 4-7

Paro

Your final stop will be back to Paro, reached by a scenic six-hour drive from Gangtey. The following morning, it’s an early start as you arise to hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, a colourful temple perched on a sheer cliff face over the Paro Valley widely recognised as one of the most famous images of Bhutan. This legendary monastery is perched on a sheer cliff face and having burnt down twice it has incredibly been rebuilt in all its glory. The beauty of rising early is that there are less people making this pilgrimage so you can hear the monks chanting and listen to the prayer flags fluttering in the wind. The rest of your time in Paro is at your leisure to explore the town and valley as you wish your private guide and driver. Highlights include the National Museum (Ta Dzong), hiking to the Kila Nunnery, and the Kyichu Lhakhang, a beautiful temple home to ancient spinning prayer wheels. On your final day, you will be collected from your hotel and driven back to the airport in time for your flight home or on to your next destination.

Accommodation: Naksel Boutique Hotel & Spa ( 3 nights )
