Seeking out the best travel experiences has led me to pitching a tent on the side of a 6,000m volcano awaiting a sunrise summit attempt, to relaxing in the finest lodges and hotels.
For over 20 years I have kept returning to Latin America. Memorable highlights include witnessing a jaguar mother teach her cubs how to hunt in the Pantanal; travelling overland through Argentina’s remote Puna desert region; and swimming with playful sea lions in the Galapagos Islands. I have also spent the last decade travelling on expedition ships to Antarctica, Greenland and Svalbard. These close-up encounters with polar bear, walrus and the vast penguin colonies should be on everybody's bucket list!

What is the best hotel you've ever stayed at and why?
A polar expedition ship. These floating hotels give you the means to explore the really remote Antarctic and Arctic regions of the world. Unbeatable!
-
What is the strangest thing you’ve eaten on your travels?
Chontacuro – juicy palm weevil larvae. An Amazonian delicacy! Also had my fair share of guinea pig cooked a thousand different ways.
-
What’s the most incredible natural phenomenon you have witnessed?
Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions – plenty of those in Latin America!

VIEW HOTELQuark Ultramarine: Antarctic
Ultramarine was designed by the Expedition Team and it shows. The layout and quality are fantastic, and the onboard helicopters allow even deeper exploration of the Antarctic and high Arctic regions.
