Cordoba is a year round destination, however spring and autumn (October/November and March/April) are most pleasant. It can be hot and humid in the peak summer months of January and February. Winter is usually pretty mild. January, February, July and Easter are the peak holiday periods for Argentina’s schools.

Estancia Los Potreros is a family-run, working cattle ranch in the Sierras Chicas hills, north-west of Cordoba in the heart Argentina. It is a superb destination for horse riding, farm experiences and polo and offers a truly authentic estancia experience.
Estancia Los Potreros is a 6,000-acre working cattle ranch and has remained in the same Anglo-Argentine family for four generations. Steeped in family history and Argentine culture, this charming estancia can accommodate horseback riders of all abilities and will give you a peek into the real gaucho lifestyle. The estancia is very secluded at an altitude of 3000ft in a vast private estate, nestled between the Pampas and the towering Andes. In fact, the estancia runs on 100% wind power and the property has no signage on the road so as to ensure their guest’s complete privacy.
Accommodation is simple yet comfortable and cosy. En-suite rooms are all individually furnished with gorgeous antique art and furniture, and there are fireplaces to help combat cold winter evenings creating a cosy atmosphere. Interiors showcase original stone walls, exposed wooden beams in the ceilings as well as rich locally made textiles. The chef at Estancia Los Potreros will spoil you with delicious cuisine using home grown organic vegetables and fruit, and evening cocktails on the porch are sure to be a highlight.
With riding such a focus at the estancia, guests can rest assured that the horses are sure footed, of good temperament and in excellent condition. Polo lessons can be combined with long or short distance horseback rides, offering guests the unique opportunity to live and breathe the gaucho culture. With both Argentine and British style tackle rooms and 2 breeds of horse on offer it is truly a paradise for horse lovers. Other activities include helping with estancia farm work like herding cattle, feeding foals and rounding up the horses. Additionally you can enjoy charming walks in the surrounding countryside, visits to local wineries and bird watching. At the end of the day enjoy fabulous food and conversation under candle light back at the farm, accompanied by the other guests at the estancia.
Los Potreros provides seven simple yet comfortable guest rooms with private bathrooms. The rooms have their own log fires and wood-burning stoves, giving them a cosy feel.
Children are made very welcome at Los Potreros and it is an ideal destination for families who enjoy the outdoors. The pool is great for children and there are vast areas of countryside to be explored around the estancia.
Facilities at the estancia include a polo field and an outdoor swimming pool. Meals are served in the cosy dining area and feature many organic ingredients grown on the ranch.
There is a whole host of activities on offer at Estancia Los Potreros including horse riding, polo, gaucho farm works, golf, trekking, bird watching and wine tasting.

Out of all of the estancias I have visited in Argentina, Estancia Los Potreros charmed me the most. The attentive and personalized service offered by owners Kevin, Lou and their staff is second to none and you will truly be looked after here. They facilitate high quality and varied horseback riding experiences on two types of horses (Criollos and Pasos) and you can expect interesting rides, task driven experiences like herding cattle, and polo lessons to top it off. Accommodations here have a rustic look but are comfortable in practice with down bedding, fireplaces and heating, and little luxury touches like thick bathrobes and hot water bottles in beds. For anyone looking to experience the Gaucho way of life, this is the place to be!

Estancia Los Potreros is without a doubt my favourite estancia in Argentina. While it is famous for it's riding, which is certainly has a right to be, it's by far the best riding experience I had in Argentina, it also offers much more. This truly unique and special estancia is set in the hills overlooking Cordoba city. The house itself is around 300 years old and has been in the same family since the beginning, so one it's more charming features is that you feel as if you've gone back in time. Now it isn't the most luxurious estancia and it doesn't pretend to be, you won't find power showers and quick wifi, however what this estancia does have is a wonderfully warm, unassuming and authentic feel to it, an atmosphere which really is hard to put into words because it was so unique. Not only are the horses and the surrounding grounds beautiful but the staff are also wonderful, friendly and clearly love working there. Louisa and Kevin (the owners) are two of the most present, hands on and lovely hosts I had the pleasure of meeting. During your stay you will see them pottering around, they will join you on rides and will always try to eat dinner with you and all the other guests every evening. Now if you aren't the type for communal eating or like the idea of getting to know other guests then this isn't the place for you because after a stay at Los Potreros you will know the names of every member of staff, every other guest and every one of their 9 dogs. However, if you are looking for a truly authentic Argentine estancia experience, are after delicious food and wonderful, personalised service then I can't think of a better place to go than Los Potreros.

My stay at Estancia Los Potreros was a truly unforgettable experience from start to finish. I had an incredible time cantering through the stunning countryside with the gauchos, assisting with rounding up the foals in the evening and exchanging stories with a lovely couple from Ohio around the dinner table and sampling some of delcious locally produced Malbec. Every day the farm offered new challenges and the horses really are superb and very sure footed. I will always remember riding a Peruvian Paso for the first time! The accommodation is simple but comfortable and in keeping with a typical Argentine cattle ranch. The main farm buildings retain so much character and history and the Begg family welcome guests with open arms.
