The Caravelle has become somewhat of a landmark in Saigon as it towers above the opera house right in the center of the city. I really enjoyed my stay there as its a hotel rich with history and proud to be one of the longest standing 5* in the country. As you enter the hotel you are greeted by the faces of the incredibly friendly staff in a smart lobby that has just been renovated. Here you will find many f&b outlets but the most popular is the Cafe d'Opera where it's great to enjoy an afternoon tea. The hotel has got fantastic facilities to come with its position. There's a lovely outdoor pool area which is good to relax by after a long day on your feet. There's also a good spa and big gym of you wanted to work off any of the delicious breakfast you are served! The hotel is de to be fully renovated at the end of the year and once this happens it'll be hard to beat.

The Caravelle is a Saigon institution and has been at the heart of the city for decades throughout a turbulent past. Now the hotel remains one of the citys most luxurious places to stay although I did think it could do with a bit of a facelift. Thankfully full renovations are planned for 2016 and the new rooms that I saw during my stay looked really promising. What I did really like about the Caravelle is the charming service and the fantastic location. The hotel is in the very center of the city, I was able to walk to the main tourist sites, local market and lots of local restaurants. Saigon traffic is terrible so having these on your doorstep is a huge bonus.
The hotel is made up of two wings the original Heritage wing and a newer Opera Wing, my advice would be to opt for a club level room in the newer wing. You will have a nice high floor with views over the city and you have access to the club lounge which offers faster check in on arrival and a really calm environment for breakfast or evening complimentary cocktails. On top of the Heritage Wing is the notorious Saigon Saigon Bar, still hugely popular its the ideal place for a pre dinner drink of an evening nightcap when you return home from a night on the town. The Caravelle also has a very impressive spa and fitness center with a great gym, spa and outdoor pool.
It is not the glitziest of hotels but I would happily return next time I was in the city as it offers great service and excellent value for money and a chance to be a part of some very important history.

The Caravelle is a great base to explore this fascinating city, and with the upcoming refurbishment to the bedrooms, it will become a fantastic option for those wanting a good value option combined with excellent service, in a fantastic location (just a stones throw away from the Opera House). Spend your afternoon relaxing by the outdoor swimming pool, or treat yourself to a spoiling spa treatment which is the perfect way to unwind during the midday heat. In the evenings you are in a great spot to just wander out to local bars and restaurants and if you want to start the evening off early, you can venture up to the infamous Saigon Saigon rooftop bar for a pre-dinner drink.

This is fantastically located in Ho Chi Minh City District 1, right opposite the Opera House, the other side of the square from the Park Hyatt Hotel. The roof top bar is a lively place for an early evening drink, taking in the incredible views of the buzzing city. The swimming pool is a great size, with sunbeds for when you want to take a break from the city, while sipping a cocktail from the pool bar. It is a more affordable option than its competitor across the square and this is perhaps reflected in the slightly dated decor. Having said this, the rooms are a good size and there are suites available for people who want a more luxurious stay.
