Lake Tahoe is an all-year round destination, mainly visited by Scott Dunn guests from spring through to autumn. During the summer months, the 70-mile loop of beaches, beautiful hiking and endless water sports make it a Mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. Equally in the winter months, the ski resorts open and visitors enjoy the powder for skiing and snow boarding. During the months of July and August guests should be prepared for the resort to be full as Tahoe is a favorite destination for American tourists alike, giving the whole of the lake region a real summer vacation feel.

Insider's View

There is no other hotel that has the lake-shore location of the Hyatt Regency. It comes into its own during the summer months, where the beach and water sports make it a Scott Dunn favorite.

Stay in one of the cottages - they are perfect for families with two bedrooms, an open plan living room kitchen area and a stones throw to the private beach and gorgeous lake

Grab a deckchair on the beach in the late afternoon and sit back, relax and watch the sunset

Uniquely positioned, the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe is nestled within the Sierra Mountain Range and the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tahoe. Sunbathe on the beach, boat on the lake, hike in the mountains and when you can play no more, retreat to the spa.

With a perfect lake shore location, inviting guest rooms and cottages and luxurious amenities and services, the Hyatt is one of our favorite choices for guests visiting Lake Tahoe. In the summer months, the resort is at its best and days on the beach are followed by sunset watching on the floating pier bar.

With a 70-mile loop of beaches and lake shores to explore, opportunities for hiking and water sports abound. During the summer months, outdoor music concerts and theatrical plays are held at Sand Harbour, whilst beaches such as Carnelian Bay Beach are great kayaking and walking in the woods.

The Hyatt Lake Tahoe has two heated swimming pools and oversized whirl pools, whilst the Stillwater Spa provides 16 luxury treatment rooms, a salon and fitness center complete with yoga room.

The Hyatt's guest rooms are alpine-lodge style. They are spacious and smartly designed, ranging from King and Twin Double Rooms, to Junior Suites and Family Suites with bunk-beds for the children. There are also private Lakeside Cottages with balconies and terraces facing towards the lake.

The Hyatt welcomes families and children. In the summer there are endless activities down on the beach, and children will love playing in their own pool next to the giant lagoon swimming pool. For those traveling with babies, the Hyatt's travel-lite service offers to have all the supplies you may need ready and waiting on arrival.

The Hyatt Lake Tahoe offers three dining experiences, including The Lone Eagle Grille for seasonal dining (recently awarded the Wine Spectator Award), the Cutthroat Saloon complete with dollar bill ceiling offers old western charm and for breakfast and hearty buffets the Sierra Café.

The Stillwater Spa offers guest the chance to indulge in pampering body treatments, massages and saloon treatments in a elegant alpine ambience. Spa highlights include 16 treatment rooms including two couples sanctuaries, one with a fireplace and the other with an infinity tub. The spa also features a state of the art fitness center, men's and women's relaxation and locker rooms, and a full service salon.

The hotel's 'Nevada' location means the Hyatt houses a casino where guests can tempt lady luck.

Ranked #1 lake in the US by USA Today, the lake is an idyllic spot during the summer months. The Hyatt's private beach complete with cabana's is the place to sunbathe or take a refreshing dip in the lake. Water sports enthusiasts love the jet skis, power boats, water skiing, paddle and fishing boats on offer from the pier.

Aside from exploring the mountains and beaches of Lake Tahoe, if you have the time take a day trip to Virginia City and step back in time. With authentic board sidewalks to Old West saloons and buildings, museums, and restaurants. Step onto a stagecoach, horse-drawn carriage, trolley, or the V&T Railroad steam engine train that crosses the high desert landscape.

The Hyatt Regency has an enviable location being situated right on the lake as well as being in close proximity to a number of different ski resorts. The complimentary shuttle makes it easy for families and couples to get around the six ski resorts on offer. After a fun-filled day on the slopes you can return back to the hotel and enjoy all the amenities of the hotel including the spa, large pool as well as the private beach on the lake. There is nothing better than at the end of the day watching the sun drop behind the mountains on one of the deckchairs on the beach.

I would highly suggest staying in one of the cottages which come with two bedrooms, an open kitchen living room area, and outdoor space (either a porch or balcony) and best of all the cottages are only a short walk to the beach and boast great views of the lake. You feel like you are in your own little village rather than a hotel.

There's no escaping that the Hyatt Regency in a huge hotel, which sometimes might lot appeal however, once you realise it is the only luxury lakeside hotel in Tahoe, it all begins to make sense. Its location is fantastic, complete with its private beach, sun loungers and water sport rentals - perfect for getting out on the water and exploring the lake in summer.

The facilities here are excellent, which makes the Hyatt our top pick for families. It provides the ideal base and must make life extremely easy for parents, knowing there's plenty to keep children entertained!
