Located in Colorado’s stunning Taylor Canyon, this remote lodge has been beautifully transformed from a general store selling fishing tackle, to an exclusive private retreat. Occupying a prime location on the banks of the Taylor River, the site includes the main lodge and eight log cabins set among the pines, ponds, and wildlife of this captivating landscape. The stylish décor has subtle touches of Wild West Americana, with antler-framed mirrors, stuffed trophy trout, vintage books, hanging moose head, bearskin rugs, stone fireplace, and horseshoe bar. The overall effect is chic and cozy, creating a warm and homely vibe.

The eight cabins include two larger options Green Drake and Royal Wulff for large families and groups. While both include two King suites, bunk room, and lounge, Green Drake also has a kitchen and TV. All the cabins are individually designed and include ensuites with steam showers, Wi-Fi, climate control, complimentary minibar with snacks and daily housekeeping. The cabins can be booked individually for a two-night minimum stay or the lodge is available for exclusive use for up to 32 guests.

While the cabins provide privacy, the lodge and facilities act as a communal playground. The main lounge with blazing fire includes reading nooks, a help yourself bar (the bartender starts at 6pm), and shared dining table. The Cooper John Games Room includes a pool table, foosball, and dartboard; the gym has a Pelaton bike, Pilates reformer and elliptical machine, while the Bathhouse is home to an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub.

Each morning guests enjoy an extensive chef-prepared breakfast, followed by lunch, après (served in the lounge, cabins, or Bathhouse) and dinner. The menus are decided in advance to account for individual preferences and dietary requirements and there’s a focus on local and seasonally inspired cuisine.

While most come here to disconnect and relax for a few days, there is ample opportunity to up the adrenalin with a range of activities. During the winter season (December to March), these include high-energy pursuits such as backcountry skiing, snowshoeing and the Marksmen’s Range for a spot of axe throwing and archery. There are also more soothing activities such as yoga, forest bathing and sound healing. For those interested in self-improvement, the lodge offers cooking and cocktail-making classes.

Rates include off-property guided activities, all gear and equipment, morning group movement classes, chef-prepared breakfast, lunch, après and dinner, in-room minibar with snacks, as well as house alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There are additional charges for spa treatments, resort skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing.
