Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The best time to combine Peru with Argentina's wine regions would be from March to May and from September to November. This avoids the rainy season in Peru and the cooler winter in Mendoza, hopefully leaving warm bright days. Machu Picchu sits in its own microclimate and it's weather is often unpredictable so is best visited in Peru's dry season when you are less likely to experience thick fog which can disrupt your views.

This unique journey through Peru and Argentina will appeal to both foodies and adventurous travelers. Explore the highlights of Peru, including Machu Picchu, before sampling Malbecs in the vineyards of Mendoza. Encounter spectacular scenery, get under the skin of fascinating ancient cultures and enjoy delicious food and wines, staying in small, boutique properties throughout.

  1. Fly to Lima

  2. Days 1-3: Lima and the Desert Coast

Begin by flying into Lima, Peru's capital city and gastronomic heart. We recommend a stay in Atemporal, a nine-bedroom property which sits in the upmarket Miraflores neighborhood, within easy reach of a number of the city's key sites and some world-class dining options. A foodie tour has been included as a perfect introduction to Peruvian cuisine. Head out of the city to nearby Inca ruins or wander the historic district and admire the colonial architecture before flying south to Cusco.

    Accommodation: Atemporal (2 nights)

  3. Days 3-7: Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu

Transfer straight into the Sacred Valley where you will be able to spend a few days adjusting to the altitude before heading to the iconic Inca site of Machu Picchu. Stay for four nights at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, marvelling at the spectacular valley scenery, exploring Andean villages and enjoying some adrenaline-fuelled adventures before boarding the train which will take you to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to the site of Machu Picchu. Enjoy a guided tour and walk in the steps of these ancient people, learning about the history of the site and its discovery. Return to the Sacred Valley in the evening.

Accommodation: Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba (4 nights)

  4. Days 7-9: Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu

Head back to Cusco and stay for two nights at a charming boutique hotel in the center. We recommend making the most out of the Cusco tourist pass which includes entry fees to all the most important museums and Inca ruins within the city, giving you plenty to discover in the next few days. Cusco's cobbled streets and pretty colonial architecture make it a wonderful place to spend a couple of days and the perfect place to end your time in Peru.

Accommodation: Casa Cartagena Boutique Hotel & Spa (2 nights)

  5. Days 9-12: Mendoza Wine Region

From here, fly to Mendoza in Argentina. This is prime wine country and you will be surrounded by vineyards, the soaring peaks of the Andes Mountains constantly looming in the distance making for some stunning contrasting scenery. Here we recommend three nights to allow plenty of time for exploring the region's best vineyards and, of course, tasting the region’s best wines.

    Accommodation: Finca Adalgisa (3 nights)

  6. Days 12-14: Buenos Aires

End your journey in Buenos Aires, a city of vivid colors and distinct European flavors. Enjoy tango shows, fine dining and football, explore fascinating museums and familiarise yourself with each neighborhood's unique character before flying home. Stay at boutique CasaSur Palermo and use the hotel's bikes to get to know this delightful city, staying for two nights.

    Accommodation: CasaSur Palermo (2 nights)
