Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Cuzco’s location and altitude result in only two seasons: rainy and dry. The rainy season typically lasts from November to March, with the heaviest rains arriving in January and February. The best time to visit Cuzco and the surrounding area is during April-October. Though daytime temperatures rest in the mid-to upper 60s throughout the year, the city sees fewer rain showers during its winter months. Bring warm clothing as night-time temperatures dip into the low 30s and 40s due to the altitude.

Exclusive eleven-suite boutique hotel set in an exquisite 16th-century mansion in the heart of Cusco. La Casona offers complete luxury in this historic town and the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding landscape.

This national monument was once home to the founder of the Inca civilization, and eventually taken over by the first Spanish Conquistadores, Francisco Pizarro and Diego de Almagro. Get to know the famous city from the moment you step out of the hotel, visiting archaeological sites, colonial churches and living cultures within Cusco or the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

The present-day accommodations are evocative of the area’s colonial past, from the rustically lavish rooms adorned with colonial-inspired furniture to bathrooms with antique free-standing tubs. Large sitting rooms with fireplaces complement the rich color palette of browns and reds off-set by cream walls. Furnished with antiques, and decorated with original architectural detail, each suite features a private sitting and dining area with open fireplace, LCD flat screen TV’s, minibar, under floor heating, safe and 24 hour butler service.

Be sure to ask one of Inkaterra's experiences concierge who will be happy to help create your own personal Cusco experience: creative crafts, colonial churches, traverse temples or pueblo picnics.

La Casona offers 9 gorgeous Patio suites and 2 Plaza suites, featuring either king size beds or twins and marble bathrooms with all the modern amenities one would expect from a luxurious boutique hotel, all with fabulous views of the plaza or the internal courtyard.

Children are welcomed but there are no specific facilities. Children will love the many cultural tours offered in and around Cusco particularly the more active activities such as mountain biking, horse riding and rafting (only suitable for older kids).

Facilities at La Casona include a lounge, library, La Veranda massage room, day bed and terraces surrounding two inner patios, dining room and dining terrace and 4x4 private excursions around Cusco and the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Activities offered at La Casona involve tours of Cusco, and the surrounding region. Visits to the infamous Machu Picchu, Sacsayhuaman, the Koricancha Temple, the Sacred Valley and the archaeological site of Piquillacta amongst others.

This sprightly newcomer might well steal the spotlight from the Hotel Monasterio, long the top luxury option in Macchu Picchu's gateway town. Cusco's architectural heritage of Incan stone walls topped with colonial white stucco is echoed in this sixteenth-century building on a square steps from the main plaza. With just 11 suites, La Casona has the intimacy of a private home, and the building's colonial charms come with smart modern touches such as iPod speakers. Inside, a grassy courtyard is surrounded by rooms on two levels. Owners Denise and Joe Koechlin have fussed over every antique- and craft-strewn square foot of the place, and exquisite pillars, retablos, and benches have been sourced from all over Peru. The excellent restaurant—don't leave without trying the quinoa pancakes—offers a good deal of Andean hospitality.—2009 Hot List
