The coastal climate of Santa Barbara is always a enjoyable surprise to the first-time visitor. This is particularly true during the winter months – roughly from October through March. Santa Barbara is a "get out in the sunshine and fresh air" place, with all the activities that it implies. A short drive into the Santa Ynez Wine Region (some 40-minutes out of town) the temperature is always around 10 degrees warmer without the ocean breezes.
Towering mountains, very close to the sea, shelter the coastal strip from inland heat and cold. The result is a comfortable year-round average temperature of 64 degrees, with an average maximum of 74 and an average minimum of 56 degrees.
All this means there is no "off-season" in Santa Barbara with sunshine all year round but the warmest months without morning fog and with higher temperatures July through October are often the best months.
To start planning your vacation to Four Seasons Resort the Biltmore Santa Barbara
Situated on the American Riviera, Four Seasons Biltmore is a beautiful historic property originally built in 1927 as a favorite retreat of movie stars from LA. Spanish colonial architecture and lush gardens provide a classically elegant resort.
Located in Montecito, an exclusive neighborhood, the Four Seasons Biltmore is a beautiful historic property. With its red roof tiles and graceful archways, it provides visitors a luxurious and intimate retreat within easy reach of Santa Barbara downtown and the Santa Ynez wine region.
Set within 22-acres of tropical gardens, the resort offers a total of 207 guest rooms, suites and bungalows, luxurious spa and fitness facilities, two enticing outdoor pools and excellent guest service.
The hip Art Deco style Tydes restaurant and bar at the Coral Casino serves up Mediterranean cuisine and seafood with panoramic ocean views. The hotel's Bella Vista restaurant offers an imaginative seasonal and local Californian menu with an ocean-view terrace. For cocktails or coffee the TV lounge offers a living-room style retreat.
Within a secluded garden setting, guests can enjoy the warm Californian sunshine as they relax by the resort's intimate swimming pool. Chilled drinks, snack and lunch can be served poolside. The Spa, designed by noted architect Peter Marino features 11 treatment rooms, including four deluxe day suites with fireplaces and private ocean view terraces.
Totally unique to this property, guests staying in premier rooms and suites are given complimentary access to the exclusive private members beach club Coral Casino Beach & Cabana Club. Located adjacent to the resort the elegant 'South Beach' style club features an entirely renovated 50m Olympic-sized pool and deck area, bordered by 31 private cabanas, and a whirlpool, children’s wading pool and rooftop sun deck as well as the Tydes restaurant.
The resort's 207 guest rooms include rooms, suites and 12 secluded bungalows set within the gardens. Tastefully decorated, many have balconies and private patios, fireplaces, vaulted ceilings and the option of additional beds. Guest rooms are spacious and include views of the mountains, garden or pool and feature deeply comfortable Four Seasons beds, flat screen TVs and colorful Spanish tiled bathrooms with deep soaking tubs and rain showers. The bungalows provide a more private retreat within the properties landscaped grounds, and are built in the craftsman style so typical of Santa Barbara.
The Four Seasons Biltmore runs a complimentary kids program throughout the summer months, from May to September (available on weekends throughout the rest of the year). Children aged 5-12 years can enjoy the club run by trained staff, with a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities including art, games, movies, cookie making, junior tennis lessons and swimming lessons. Offered Monday through to Saturday year-round. The concierge can also help recommend and organize family activities from the zoo to horseback riding (7 years and up) and The Coral Casino also offers a children's swimming pool located next to Butterfly Beach.
Bella Vista offers innovative wine-country cuisine with ocean views, whilst Tydes at Coral Casino overlooks Butterfly Beach. All but 5-minutes from the hotel guests can reach the yacht harbor and breakwater for water sports and sailing; the oldest working wharf on the West Coast of Stearns Wharf; enjoy the boutiques and cafes of the elite neighborhood of Montecito; visit the zoo; go whale watching in the Santa Barbara channel and visit Lotusland estate and botanical gardens in the foothills of Montecito.

Guests should venture into the Santa Ynez Valley, home to Santa Barbara's wineries of which there are over 90 to choose from. It's always around 10 degrees warmer in the Valley, making it an excellent day-trip if waking up on a foggy morning on the coast. In the valley is Los Olivos, a quaint arty community with galleries and charming wine tasting rooms, whilst Solvang offers a delightful mix of tree-lined roads and has plenty of stores for gifts as well as wonderful bakeries.

The Four Seasons Santa Barbara is in a great location just a short walk from the shops and restaurants of upmarket Montecito as well as being directly across the road from the beach. It is full of character and charm and a completely unique property in Santa Barbara.

The Four Seasons Biltmore is a beautiful place for a romantic getaway as well as a fun-filled family vacation. It has a real Mexican Hacienda feel to it due to the red tiled roofs, Mexican textiles in the bedrooms and tropical gardens, which attract an abundance of hummingbirds and butterflies.
It has a fantastic beachfront location, just 10-minutes' drive or bus journey to downtown Santa Barbara where you can visit the farmers market on State Street, stand-up paddleboard and sail in the harbor, feed giraffes at the zoo, taste local wines at one of the many tasting rooms of the Urban Wine Trail or catch a live performance at the Grenada Theatre
Although the guest rooms do not have ocean views (all cottages and suites are set amongst lush gardens), all of the public areas have phenomenal views of Butterfly Beach, the blue Pacific Ocean, across to the Channel Islands and the Santa Barbara coastline.
I was truly impressed by the facilities at this stunning resort including the fitness room overlooking the ocean, the beautifully relaxing spa, kids club and activities, and even the little croquet and putting greens dotted around the property. However the most wonderful part of this property has got to be the Coral Casino Beach and Cabana Club with its legendary Olympic sized swimming pool and children's wading pool. This retro beach club was popular with Hollywood stars who used to visit on weekends in the 1930s. I loved the Art Deco motifs and black-and-white photographs outside the sea-view Tydes restaurant highlighting the club's original glamour and sense of luxury.

Santa Barbara's climate and wine country is enough to capture adult imaginations but there's also lots of fun to be had for the children from the planetarium, the Ty Warner Sea Center, Santa Barbara's Sailing Club and Hendry's Beach for sand castles.

Santa Barbara is the 'American Riviera' with a beautiful sunny climate and Pacific Ocean breeze. Get out on the water by catamaran, see whales and dolphins around the Channel Island National Park and cycle along the palm-lined promenade on a cruiser.
